That mini 707 was so cool looking.
Great proportions.

I remember seeing one or two Hansa jets at Kalitta's base in Morristown, TN in the late 80s.

A friend of mine flew one back then (not Kalitta's) and said it was a pig, same engines as a LR24 but weighed about 4000 lbs more. (guestimate).

I remember seeing the engine test bed for the Lear 35. It was a 20 series Lear with the original cj610 on the right and a tfe 731 on the left. Looked crazy at first but the experimental and restricted labels on the side gave it away.

We had a similar testbed for the 750 at Cessna, a 650 with the Allison engine on one side.

I saw a picture of it one time many years ago and thought it was super cool, although I’ve not been able to find a picture of it since. Would be cool if a picture would resurface!

"Looked crazy"

Maybe no more crazy than this. The 747 can carry a fifth engine inboard of number two on a pylon, but it's for ferry of the engine, not for use.

My old boss flew the Hansa for Connie for a while.

He said the exact same thing about the performance.

He did add that it was super easy to fly.

What was that one super oddball business jet (Maybe French) that those guys crashed after they couldn't get both started and tried to do a windmill start on the roll... It was a while back. Cant remember what that was.

Yes, the Corvette, back in 98' out of PDX (Portland, OR). I was at the then FlightCraft FBO when this guy decide to try this. Couple pilots/mechanics tried to talk him out of it, no luck. I was preflighting the Merlin III when the accident happened. They survived. Sad loss of a cool jet.

Supposedly called "Air Force 1/2" by LBJ. My first instructor in the JetStar had flown them in the 89th Airlift Wing. He had great stories about both the aircraft and the VIP pax. I was lucky enough to fly JetStar IIs and 731 JetStars for four years. Amazingly reliable and great flying aircraft, especially considering the prototype was designed and flown in 1957.

I found a photo of the Cessna 650/Allison testbed online. I could not get either the photo or a link to insert properly. Mr. Google should be able to find it.

My wife and I were in Las Vegas this weekend where we visited the Atomic Museum on Saturday. Outstanding museum which had a photo of a two-engine Lockheed Jetstar that Kelly Johnson and others would use to fly from Burbank to Area 51 where the A-12 was being tested. The caption indicated only 4 of these early Jetstars were built, powered by 2200 lbs/thrust Bristol Orpheus turbojets. I doubt any have survived.
