Not sure on tire wear. VMC 100. Flight Safety recommends 120 all the time as the fly away rudder is slightly easier to manage.

At least in the sim, I agree with them. I treat the book rotation speed as the abort, then continue on.

I’m glad you didn’t try to taxi on the the grass. I saw a King Air that came all the way from Kenya get stuck…very stuck…in grass that required high power to taxi in the Twin Bonanza.

Then, because that wasn’t enough, a Cirrus Vision Jet got stuck in almost the same place!

I was definitely debating. As much fun as it is to camp by the plane, getting stuck sounds awful.

I had some friends in the north 40 and we camped with them so it was the best of both worlds. Basler for parking was awesome. I will do that again. Same for warbird arrival.

Piaggio owners - looking for some feedback on the fuel capacity for the early Avanti I's. I've seen posted in this thread that the first 12 serial numbers are limited on fuel capacity (392.6 US GAL usable). However, I've also seen aircraft after 1012 that still show 392.6 US GAL usable. Is the discrepancy that the S/N listed was stated incorrectly or is the issue that there are some aircraft after S/N 1012 that were built without the Wing Tank Modification?

Is it possible to modify an early Avanti I with SB 80-0123 "Wing Tank Extension" to bring the total usable fuel up to 418.2 US GAL like the later Avanti I's?

I don’t know the ins and outs of this relative to the earliest serial numbers. But I looked at SB 80-0123 to see what it said - here’s the 1st page with “Effectivity” listed as S/n 1016 to 1035, so one in that range can clearly be converted - legally, anyway. I don’t know whether the practical reality of acquiring the parts kits is currently realistic or not. I also don’t know about earlier than 1016, maybe there’s a way. If you are serious about a specific s/n, I would have a conversation about it with IJSC or SWAS.

I have 1019 and it has it done. I looked at an earlier one and was told (pre 1016) and was told by service center it cannot be modified. Something about wing venting not allowing modification in the early ones.

When I look at where the dirt and water spots end up on the flaps and props after landing on a wet runway I would be very nervous about kicking up even small debris that could do real damage.

No experience at all. I think the “rough runway kit” is basically just a mud flap on the nose gear, I don’t think there are any changes to the main gear. So I would be surprised if the Managhi gear “couldn’t handle it” per se as I doubt they reengineered them to make them weaker. But I agree that you would probably take a decent amount of debris dings in the props, and probably the inner flaps.

Would be worth it to go to Pond Inlet in northern Baffin Island….once…maybe.

From what I hear Triple Tree in SC has a beautiful smooooooth 7,000 foot by 300 foot wide grass runway.

My concern is I know from my own experience that a smooth grass runway landing at 40mph may not be a smooth runway landing at 60 knots.

Maybe go with a buddy in HIS king air first.

Yeah, and further implied there is that 110-120 kts touchdown is pretty dang fast for grass…

I am seriously considering selling my Piaggio. SN1013, it has all Garmin even the EIS, new windshields, just did the horizontal AD, new paint, freshened up the interior. It is in excellent shape engines on ESP Gold. Let me know if anyone is interested. I'm willing to let it go under 2m.
