Congrats to Tim Dodd for navigating complex personalities and getting two amazing interviews with Jeff Bezos on the New Glenn rocket / Blue Origin.

Part One: https://youtu.be/rsuqSn7ifpU?feature=shared

Part Two: https://youtu.be/Hu8SlfmpKM4?feature=shared

I've only done the first part yet and will get to the second tonight. Jeff comes across great and they both do a terrific interview.

Not sure how he gets both Elon and Jeff to grant such terrific tours but he did it and I congratulate him for that.
Now, in true BT form lets rip him a new one lol...

Because he’s outstanding at what he does. He’s an ambassador to rocketry who, as his motto says, brings space down to earth for everyday people by learning about the technical details and then presenting them in a down to earth and understandable way. He began as a photographer and evolved into probably the most well known space technology oriented provider on YouTube. His genuine enthusiasm is contagious and his mature and positive nature instills trust that what he presents will be fair and largely fact based and unbiased.

He’s just a fun guy to watch if you’re a space tech nerd. That his reputation has earned him one-on-one interviews with the top two rocket makers (and two wealthiest people) in the known universe speaks to the quality of what he does.

I came away thinking Bezos sounded smart but definitely has a bit of bigger rocket envy.
Will be interesting to see if first new Glenn pulls off the whole shebang.

That would be pretty amazing if it happens. It’s also important from a “bigger rocket” perspective to consider that New Glenn is not a direct competitor to Starship, it’s a competitor to Falcon Heavy, and a strong one at that.

New Glenn is rated for 45 tons to LEO and 13 to Geostationary Transfer Orbit, whereas Starship is expected to take 150 tons all the way to GTO. I don’t think that’s on the menu for Blue Origin. They can both be celebrated for what they are; a step to the future of human space travel. As Jeff pointed out, we learned how to fly in space decades ago. What we’re learning now is how to do it affordabily.

Whoa. I missed that Starship was 10x to gto. Dang.

Bezos may need to get a bigger rocket in queue. Doesn’t matter how good new Glenn is, it won’t be competitive with something lifting 10x payload.

Those could be 150 Etons (Elon tons).
No matter, here we are in the coolest period of rocket development..

Yes and no. UPS doesn’t use a Class 8 tractor-trailer to deliver your package to your house. New Glenn fills a niche as do many of the smaller rockets that are now in service or development. Starship’s purpose is to be that long haul tractor-trailer, New Glenn is more of the local delivery truck. We need both. If he can make New Glenn cheap enough per trip, the competition would be to Falcon 9.
