In raw numbers, many more Beech products have shed wings in flight than the three Pipers that precipitated the AD.

Glenn,

You willing to share where you found those numbers. I would like to check them out.

Actually only two - the pipe patrol and the Embry Riddle Arrow planes led to the AD. The third mentioned in the SAIB few in to a thunderstorm. Yes the wing broke, but that's not supporting data.

Some interesting history on the Beech spar strap is in this forum thread:

Yep... and I would like to know how many strut braced Cessnas have shed a wing in flight or suffered any type of airframe failure?

Saw a breakdown of that somewhere. Surprised me, it was in double digits. Some weather related, some LOC related, and some related to improper bracing. Pretty strong design though. But then again these planes are not the fastest.

The Twin Beech has a welded Steel Spar. The spar strap has a series of blocks that clamp to the steel tube and allow the long flat spar strap to integrate the strap to the round/oval steel tube structure. I don’t believe the Queen Air/King Air wing structure had a welded steel tube wing spar.
