You mean dealing with a reasonable person that owns a valuable, attractive asset and doesn't want pie-in-the-sky buyers?

Edit: I've transitioned 95% of my quipment sales from retail to wholesale/export and it was the BEST thing I've ever done.

It sounds like the experience I had when I was shopping the earlier C90's....owner operated C90's with midlife or greater engines, are just abysmal to work with- it usually boils down to arguments over what is airworthy and what is deferrable and unreasonable to spend on

I was fortunate enough to buy my P2 Baron from one of the most honest guys I have ever met. We spent a long time debating the price then shook hands and off I went to pre-buy.

He was completely honest about everything except the three still continuing squawks I have, which are:

1. Every time I fly the plane I get bugs on the windshield.

2. Every time I fly the plane the fuel level goes down.

3. Every few months, the oil gets dirty and has to be changed.

My otherwise truly great mechanics have declined to work on these problems.

Praying that all on BT have so many troubles like Howard...

We were doing a prebuy on a C-140. It was an A&P school project. New fabric, fresh annual signed by one of the instructors.I took my wife to pick it up and she had to prove to a school instructor she could handle the aircraft before ferrying it to us.She was flying jumpers in a DC3 at the time.
First thing we found was the aileron cable routed incorrectly, which ought to have been noticed by anyone with the cable not clearing the hole they were routed thru.
Second item was the starboard elevator was for an earlier model and the bracket AD not compiled with. The serial number for the aircraft was AD NA. Nothing in the logbook about the change. Checking the four Empenage bolts, one was loose because it was cross threaded and the nut plate was broken off.
The buyer was no longer interested and the owner was unhappy about the UNAIRWORTHY aircraft stuck 100 miles away.

So lucky and just tickled pink to have both parties pissed at ME.

I can help with your squawk 1. Leave Santa Monica and move to the upper midwest, and you will be able to avoid that issue about 6 months out of the year.

Not sure I'd agree that it was airworthy given the mentioned squawks. I certainly wouldn't have flown it anywhere afterward. If the owner was nice about it I'd offer to pay for his gas to come and get it.

Looking forward to a new thread calling this seller a POS maggot, then when people disagree, the expression of surprise at the reaction "you weren't looking for", and craven request to the zookeepers to remove the evidence.

When a seller pays “too much” for what they believe is a “perfect plane” and then try to resell it for more than the market value, they are always disappointed and bitter.

Old 421C’s have lots of secrets and require a VERY THROUGH pre buy from a reputable shop and not an inspection in the owners hangar by the owners mechanic.

I usually tell people for a basic single/light twin, bring your A&P to our hangar and I'll provide a full shop. For a complex twin, it needs to go to the A&P's facility because a real prebuy it isn't going to done in a day.

Also remember two things..

1. Savvy never turns a wrench, goes into the field to actually inspect an airplane, or has any liability. You are still dealing with a "random" shop. He has no real ability to control the quality of the shop.

2. For every pilot that loves Savvy, there is an equal number of A&P's or IA's that can't stand him. There was a pretty good thread going on Facebook last week that brought out some "interesting" opinions from guys that have dealt with him.
