I have owned most of the Pipers, what do you want to know? They are actually year over year doing quite well. Although the M-class is where they like to be, they are doing very well with fleet sales in the trainer market. Maybe just caught them at a bad time, because they usually like to have a good presence at OSH

But they got a ways to go before they suck as much as MT.

In 2017 we were inside the tent and they had a little table with coffee. My dad was about to pour himself one and some lady asked if he was an M owner (meridian/malibu/matrix) to which he said no, so he was told he wasn’t allowed to have one. A cup of basic coffee. Lol!

Great marketing. Btw my dad does have a piper, but not an m owner. Not worthy of a coffee!

I found this the case with most of the vendors. Boeing asked my son which airline he flew for. He has 1000 hours in AWACs (707). He said "Burgin Airlines". She asked us to leave. Not kidding. Crickets at Textron and Piper.

I did the same comparison. Sat in the Cirrus Vision Jet and it was downright roomy inside. I want one.

Then I meandered over to Beech and looked at the Bonanza G36. The salesman told me $914K for that one. There are some people that simply won't buy used anything, but I couldn't bring myself to spend so much on that plane.

It's worth mentioning a couple of things about the new Beech G36. The major improvements over the '78 model I own were both made by third parties and co-opted by Beech: (1) interior by Tim Hallock, and (2) A/C by FTA. You can point to the Garmin G1000 NXI too, I guess.

Cirrus is always trying to add new features and benefits to each successive year model.

The last thing I’d want to do at Osh Kosh is look at new airplanes.

Are the people that complain about this actually shopping for a new plane? Or do they just want to see the OEM pushing the old design with a new price tag?

I’m confused about how this is disappointing to an owner of a 20-30year old plane, versus say a Cirrus

I've visited all the listed tents over the years and have been a potential buyer. It matters and Textron is a failure in that category as is Beech in my experience. Cirrus, Mooney and many other smaller companies do a much better job than the two listed in sentence 1.

Don't discount the trickle-up effect. The guy I bought my A36 from needed the money to buy a newer Baron from a guy who was selling it to buy a King Air. And the first step in my choosing the A36 vs. Mooney and Piper was comparing new versions of each.

I struggled getting attention at some of these booths as well. Unfortunately the number of qualified buyers is SLIM...The sales guys know a very small percentage of people are capable of purchasing a new aircraft so they profile. A 30 something guy with kids isn’t going to get attention unless you push for it. Maybe in my 40s that will change.
A 60 year old guy in a cowboy hat and boots that looks like oil money will.
It is frustrating! This is the word we live in.
The Kodiak booth was nice and welcoming... Cessna guys were a little put off until they realized we were potential buyers...then suddenly it’s great.
Diamond was a complete turn off. They didn’t even acknowledge my existence. When I approached someone, he followed with a smart response. No thanks....

I'm pretty happy with my old v-tail. As long as they stay committed to making some tail skins and other hard to get parts I won't complain.

It would have to be a really darn nice interior and a much much lower price to get me to overlook the external ugliness of a Cirrus compared to the beauty of a new Bonanza. Sad to see the market going that way.
