182 is a great airplane, does everything pretty well. I also like the high wing view. Enjoy it!

Tom,
Pretty 180. What year?
That looks like Watson Lake; is it?

George

Nate,

Thanks for your post, reminds me that it's all about the right plane for the mission. Another reminder here on the Front Range, we had a DPE who would fly to his examiner rides in his C150. He too would comment on how the slowest airplane is faster than the quickest car in city traffic.

It's been 6 months since I've logged time in a C182 (-Q and -R) after 300 hours in 2 years. I miss flying them fairly regularly.

Congrats... great purchase!

I used to own a 2008 T182T. I also really liked the plane, hard to imagine anyone who can't appreciate them for what they are. I believe the ultimate restart 182 would be a NA 300HP conversion. I do a lot of mountain flying and the extra power with the simplicity of a NA 182 bird would be the ticket.

Texas Skyways offers a conversion of the 182T to the Conti 550N with 310hp.

Alamo Aerospace has a conversion to 260hp. It is a IO540 D4B5 which is similar to the stock engine but spins at 2700rpm.

And yes it would be nice if Cessna had shown some innovation in that direction rather than sinking money into their diesel adventures.

Thanks for the photo. I knew the man who, many years ago (over 50), painted the sign on that hangar . I shuddered a bit when I saw the photo. Ivan Raketti. He passed about 8-10 years ago. Watson Lake is my home town. Just bought property on a remote lake near there.

We have a long time 182 owner at our field that recently upgraded his over 30 year old Cessna 182 with a new Continental IO-550, fuel injected 300 HP engine along with a new 3 bladed Hartzell propeller. It replaced a 150 hour over TBO carbureted Continental O-470, that only produced 230 HP with a 2 bladed propeller. In about one month with his “new airplane” the owner reports he is absolutely ecstatic with the new 18 knot cruise increase and ability to climb to 10,000 feet in 10 minutes instead of the old 30 minutes. According to the sales brochure regarding this STC, the "new 182" should achieve a 600 foot take off roll, true airspeed in excess of 180mph, 1500fpm climb, elimination of carburetor ice, less engine vibration due to heavy duty mounts, better cooling and all this with a minimal increase in fuel consumption.

I have 800hrs in my P model. Don't miss a thing about that airplane. The Bonanza has consistently cost less to operate. A restart with the Lycoming engine would probably resolve most of my complaints about the 182.

We purchased a T182T a little over 2 years ago. I was originally looking for an A36 T/N. What flipped us to the 182 was our stage of life. We are getting into the "New 50's", sometimes referred to as turning 70. I drug my spouse/co-pilot around everywhere checking out planes. It soon became very clear that she did not enjoy climbing up on the wing.

The high wing Cessna is so easy to get in and out of, and as stated earlier in this thread, the T model seats are so very comfortable. The G1000 has a learning curve, but I feel it is worth it. That is a beautiful aircraft in the picture. I expect that you will love your 182 as much as we love ours.

This thread sounds like it starts in the middle of the story. Did I miss something?

This is a spinoff of Nates 'Cirrus for sale' thread.
