I think there is a difference in the requirement between IFR certified and VFR only planes. The Cirrus SRV was VFR only but I don't know if shielding was omitted or not.

Not sure about the SR20, but the DA20 is VFR only and I think there is something in the POH about not flying through rain. The talk was that if you flew through enough rain you would build up static and no longer be able to use the radio.

No idea if it is true.

Kind of a shame. The DA20 is a really nice 1 person airplane with an option to take one other person up for a look see/ trainer. I was told adding the wire required (I guess for the faraday cage) would be too much for the little bird.
