Even if the "catch" method doesn't work, the "chopsticks" are useful for stacking operations. I’m not sure that NASA is confident in the catch operation. The arms on the tower at KSC are significantly shorter than the ones at Boca Chica. I suspect that they will not work for catching falling rockets. That said, I’m not sure what “Plan B” would be. When I said that they couldn’t afford a major failure I was thinking of something close to the ground that could damage the launch facility and/or cause damage to the surrounding areas. I realize that I wasn’t clear.

Gonna be epic. Maybe more exciting than Heavy or the Ship demo flights.

Today (April 4, 2023), the Federal Aviation Administration issued a time and date for a possible Starship Super Heavy test flight. It came in the form of an Operations Advisory Plan that lists a window of 1:10 to 5:45 p.m. UTC (8:10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. CDT) on Monday (April 10). Backup dates are April 11 and 12 with the same launch window.” https://earthsky.org/human-world/is-the ... st-flight/

That would be very unfortunate. I read that the FAA has issued a statement saying the advisory should not be interpreted to mean the license is imminent, but that's their boilerplate answer.

Ah, so the FAA holds off until the very last second, issues license, blast off, giving the busy bodies not enough time to do anything. I don't know why the law suit has to wait for a launch license, though. Seems to me the impact of early Starships hovering and exploding all the time, plus the all engine test fire of the booster, have created more environmental impact than the actual launch will. I believe sea turtles and piping plovers are the 2 big concerns the lawsuit, if filed, will be related to.

There is nothing on Mars and no reason for any human to be there. It would be vastly easier to build a human colony on the Moon than Mars. Mike C.
