AFAIK, the only airport with an outright ban is KSMO. It was grandfathered because it had a local ban in place before any federal rules and certifications regarding noise came into effect

Naples considered banning it.

But they did not. Thus my statement - "only airport with a ... ban".

I'm not aware of any airport with an MU2 ban despite how noisy it seems.

It is an irritating sound.

I remember my first visit a PROP event, they started up a two MU2's on the ramp for a fly-by. I could not find enough fingers fast enough to plug my ears! I am quite noise sensitive.

Thankfully though they are quiet in the cabin, no worse than a P210 in my opinion.

Mike - You likely have some harmonics and audio engineering indicating why it is irritating. However, I opine that it is a lovely sound as long as you are not right next to it on the ramp.

I love the sound of an MU-2 on takeoff, flying over, going around, or landing. However, it is painful on the ramp and agree with the poster above - you can't put your fingers in your ears or push the ear cover over fast enough.

Wow! This goes all the way back to Page 76. Avantair (not part of Avanti) wasn't being as kind of a neighbor as folks would have liked. They ticked off Naples and Aspen but I don't believe SMO was their fault but the fault of people who move around the cheap airport land.

They are going through all of these noise machinations at Dulles and some of the flying public wishes MWAA would just say - Due to noise complaints of people knowingly moving near the airport because land was dirt cheap at the time and they don't want plane noise, we are shutting the airports (KIAD and KCDA) down for a week, possibly longer.

There is a group, really a horse owner in Loudoun County, trying to get Leesburg and KIAD "heading 340 departure) shut down. Right now all they do is complain, particularly if an MU-2, Avanti, or Twin Commander flies over VFR and turns the left downwind for 17.

Well, it may be loud on the ground but it’s 73db in mg pilots seat. This was today. It loves ISA and FL370. Runs right up to the barber pole.

There were two home owners near my previous airport that filed 250+ and 150+ noise complaints in a single year. One astute attorney sent them each a letter telling them that they now had to list their property as "distressed" on their title because of the know noise issue. Neither person filed another noise complaint.

There's a Garmin STC for the P180, that's awesome? Does it use the Garmin AP as well? And do you need to keep the steam gauges with it, seems like the other 2 indicators would suffice.

No Garmin AP yet, and the Collins ADC+AP must be retained to be legal for RVSM. It is being worked on, last status I knew was it was close then had some setback, and now I’m not clear how close.
