Fast enough for you 219 KTAS? That is max cruise, normal cruise at that altitude would be about 205. No radar pod, adds 3-4 KTAS over the Malibu/Mirage;-) 15,000 normal cruise 190's. But that is a stock Matrix. Sounds like your Baron is STC'd for a turbo?

I only got 4 seats, but I've seen > 230ktas in mine, level at max cruise power in the flight levels.

But without pressurization, I'm more happy in the teens, lean of peak, with the nose-hose on.

"Next" may be a new title, but iirc Cirrus has been doing this for a long time, taking in trades and offering them as used with a limited warranty.

Speeds are quite similar. I haven’t taken mine above 17,500’ but I see 200 - 205 KTAS there on my WOT/LOP/2300 RPM/15.5 GPH setting.

I have an A36 Bonanza; not a Baron.

I wonder what your fuel burn was though with the big Lycoming at max cruise?

Here’s a pic from a trip to Florida back in June. I was direct ABQ at the time.

206 KTAS at 17,500’ on 15.8 GPH (indicated).

The fuel totalizer indicates I’m burning 15.8 GPH but when I refuel after about a 4 hour flight it’s about 1.5 gallons off so I figure actual fuel burn is 15.5 GPH at this power setting.

I know I could tweak the K factor but I like having a tiny bit of cushion in the fuel calculations so I use the K factor provided with the fuel flow sensor.

Of course I could cruise at 2500 RPM at 17.x GPH and go faster but I like this setting.

Warm day with those numbers!

Oil temperature is pretty high though.

Not really.

There was a wiring issue with the factory probe; it was reading too high.

The forward oil temp probe is showing 181 degrees F.

It was a warm June day.

Actually, no. This is an entirely new program. The last time Cirrus was in the pre-owned business was 2010/2011.

There is still a very strong relationship with two independant pre-owned broker partners, Aerista and Lone Mountain Aircraft Sales. So, current owners making a move can now choose to list with a broker to get retail but with the uncertainty of timing, negotiations, pre-buy; in addition to ongoing loan costs, insurance, storage, MX, databases and the risk of getting a "ding" etc., or they can trade to Cirrus at a wholesale price.

The analogy of a luxury car dealership and a "same day key swap" is very accurate. The wholesale price will always be less than retail, but so is the hassle!! It's already been very popular and I expect it to grow.

The Matrix is a great example of what is possible with the engine technology we have and how much of it is wasted in the old Bonanza design. With basically same energy i.e. fuel usage, the Matrix has a much bigger cabin, FIKI, can fly high from the factory. And despite the much bigger cabin, it’s at least as fast as a TN bonanza.

That’s the plane Beech should be putting up against the SR22 at a reasonable price. To passengers, the SR looks like a toy compared to the Matrix.

I sold two of my cars from the collection wholesale this fall. The simplicity of the transaction (hardly any wasted time) made up for a couple lost dollars. I imagine people flying cirrus are in similar time/value propositions and this will do really well.

The Piper Martrix has to be in that mix, Bigger, faster, longer range, higher altitude, better runway performance, especially if high, hot, and heavy, FIKI. I had one for a while. It liked to fly high so well, that I turned it in for a Mirage, tired of the nose hoses. Was one of the most reliable planes that I have owned. 200 KTAS all day long in the teens. They only made 214 of them, so not easy to find.

I don’t get the Matrix. If you’re going through the trouble and expense of a PA46, why just get the Mirage? Pressurization beats the heck out of a nose-hose.

That is why the line shut down. Most opted for fully optioned Matrix which set the price point too close to the Mirage. Great plane though. Down low that big Lycoming is loafing. But for 200K more, Mirage is a better plane.

For those who live in a state with tax on aircraft, would trading it in be like trading in a car where you're only taxed on the difference? That can help make up the gap between getting "top dollar" on the open market.

Chip-

in Michigan your taxed on the full sale price regardless of any trade in. It sucks.

That's just criminal.

In most cases yes, and that's a big deal when we're talking Cirrus money.
In TN sales tax is ~10%, and there are provisions for trade in just like for cars, so it can make a lot of sense to trade when able.

Bing says 41 states offer a trade in credit when determining the sales tax on a vehicle purchase.

California does not. Both buyers (of the new vehicle and the one traded in) get to pay sales tax on the full price.

That is one of the reasons why some purchasers take delivery of aircraft in states like Oregon (that have no sales tax). The laws are complex, but if one has the time and financial wherewithal to buy an aircraft and be without it for some period of time the tax can legally be avoided.

classic BT. Someone aske a specific question about sales taxes on a cirrus purchase. 10 posts later it's overtaken by an argument about bonanza vs meridian.

Jeff it won’t be classic Beechtalk until the argument includes a Citation V.
