Just curious if anybody uses this engine on an experimental and what your fuel burns have been averaging

Thanks

At 65% that engine should burn something like:

65% x 185 hp x .45 lb/hp /6 lb/gallon = 9 GPH, reasonably leaned at 65% power.

But actual fuel burn varies tremendously with power setting and how lean you can run the engine.

We can simplify to the general rule of thumb: To get leaned cruise GPH, divide the HP rating by 20.

I have a Titan OX-360 installed on a Vans RV-9A. Supposedly the Titan IO-370 is good for 10 more HP (190HP), but I suspect my engine would do the same with fuel injection and a constant speed prop that could absorb it.

I'm flight planning for 150ktas at 8.5gph, roughly 65% power. I can do 158ktas on 9.5-10gph. I've also been playing with LOP ops, seeing 7.5gph or so at 148ktas, ~63% power.

I suspect my installation is pretty clean, and you'd be burning more fuel in a Super Cub at similar power settings. I also believe the IO-370 will run LOP more easily/smoothly than my OX-360, despite the dual electronic ignition (pMags).

Thanks Sam and Dave

I’m going to start with 10.5 gph to be conservative until I get a good feel for the fuel burns.

Works on most 8.5:1 compression engines. Take hp, drop last number and divide in half.

The Twin Navion STC used to use the Lycoming O-370. There should be some info here that might help for power settings and fuel burn. Not quite the same as the Titan but the numbers may help.

Thought they were O-340's. O-360's weren't ready yet.
