As they approached the inferno, Copter 17 dropped so violently that the two men were yanked up off their seats, restrained only by their seatbelts. Known for their calm under pressure, they both yelped in shock.
I have hundreds of hours sitting behind pilots in UH-1 and UH-60 aircraft, a little time in the left seat of the UH-1, UH-60, OH-58, and OH-6 when I was a young W.O.C., and a few dozen hours in the back of UH-60s in Iraq. Never once have I heard a helo pilot or W.O.C. or even ROTC "kid" in the left seat on a FAM ride yelp.
Utterances of a few expletives, or a grunt or two, yes.
...but a "yelp" in shock? Absolutely not!
