+1 for the Maxdim product, it'll work with both incandescent & LED lights as I believe it uses PWM to change the intensity. Installed around 20 of them in a fleet of survey aircraft over 8 years and I don't remeber any failures. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235615528735?_ ... R6rlh7y4ZA

I installed one in the overhead panel of a 172G to comply with AD93-24-15, I dont recall any space issues.
