There’s a CAP 10B for sale on Barnstormers. It has been listed for a long time. The asking price has declined from $97K to the current asking price of $75K.
Has anyone looked at this specific plane? I know there is a big AD on the wing spar. There is a terminating action (a new carbon fiber spar cap) but otherwise I believe there is a recurring inspection. I’ll look that up tomorrow at the office.
In the meantime, does anyone have detailed information about this plane? Barring that, any good knowledge on the spar AD?
Why are we looking at the 10B? Last week, my wife and I were just visiting a small airport west of Paris. There were a couple of CAP aircraft there - a 10B and a 20. There were also a lot of Robin aircraft. My wife really liked the 10B and she’s looking for something fun and a little different to build a couple of hundred hours of tailwheel time.
While visiting there, we spoke with someone who teaches in a 10B. He said the wing can be sent to the factory and have the carbon spar cap installed for $45K. Nice to have that option.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zeke

OK - a quick follow up.
I looked at the logbooks for the aircraft in question and I’ve decided to walk away. Let me be clear - there was nothing wrong in the logs. But a review of the actual AD got my attention. And I decided that I really don’t want an aircraft that is one bad inspection away from being grounded.
There’s information that this particular AD was the result of a poorly maintained and/or neglected aircraft being flown hard after multiple years of inactivity while sitting outside. Not the ideal environment for a wood wing plane.
I’m trying to make my flying life simpler - not worse.
So, as much as I like the plane, we will move on.
Thanks,
Zeke

I mush enjoyed my introduction to aerobatics many years ago in the CAP 10. That was at Gene Soucy's school, and I was sorely tempted to buy a CAP of my own, being a bit of a Francophile. The one you are looking at may have been with the Mexican air force originally. I do not know this for a fact, but it is my understanding that the plane was flown pretty hard...FWIW.

I also flew the CAP-10 at Gene Soucy's school. August 1981. That plane is based not to far from me. The one I bought earlier this year started at Frederick MD, KFDK). Strange twist. I got my CFI to teach aerobatics at KFDK. They had a Decathlon and were "getting" the CAP-10. After over 6 months, I gave up and moved to another airport to teach. The deal was at FDL was they had enough other instructors, so I would only teach aerobatics. So full circle, the CAP-10 I own is the one the eventually did arrive at KFDK.

They are fun airplanes to fly. Side by side is nice.
I have one with the C wing. Out of curiosity... is the C wing generally available for swap? Looks like they haven't (?) been built in nearly twenty years, though according to Google a French company called CEAPR has some spare parts available. I guess the real question is could a B still be bought and converted to a C, or has that ship sailed in time.

Parts are still available. I am not sure of the availability of the C wing. The parts catalogue is a bit flaky. Like a DOS program
