First, I’m just the messenger and caught this on Facebook since it’s local to me. At $50k it makes me want to go ahead and get my twin rating but going thru all of that at 62yo….. I’m just not sure about all that work lol. Out of annual and I would not be surprised that 1610 hours the one engine just went past tbo although my TIO540 is 2000 hours. I know for sure that overhaul is around $100k since my Mooney TIO540 is nearing that mark. I’m fine with a six pack and a good ifd540 too :D Anyway, for Duke nuts I thought I should share this. I do not know the seller but I may know people that do know him if anyone needed a personal reference on him. I know the entry fee is the easy $$ part but but but  It may only be good for parts and cores.

4 years and $400,000.00 later you’d have a decent traveling machine. Just my WAG. Looks like it has been sitting for quite awhile.

Yup. If someone really had Duke fever and wanted to take a chance - just make it airworthy and add an ADS-B squawk box then fly it until it becomes a parts donor.

Wow…. For all you Duke owners out there…. $50k or maybe less for a decent parts plane is a steal. If I still had N911S I’d be tempted. Would keep you flying for a long time I’m a guessing.

That plane looks really well taken care of for not having flown, or at least had an ADS-B ping, since 2019. It sold around October 2022 and my guess is that the new owner has found out that catch-up maintenance takes work and the engines are becoming orphan.
He should have read the Lazarus thread and some of the New FWF posts!

The irony is that this Duke is about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of some of the 172s I am looking at. However, those 172s will fly 400-500 hours a year on leaseback to a flight school and the local school can overhaul the engines on the 172. The Duke's engines are nearing pumpkin status. Does that happen when the clock hits midnight for Princess Ella?

If I had the money and medical, and this aircraft were a corrosion free mid-west aircraft, this looks to be a decent candidate for a RTD conversion.

I have always had a soft spot for these things, but they remind my of Homer's Odyssey and the characters of Scylla and Charybdis.

Nothing wrong with a Duke. Nothing wrong with the Lycoming 541 engines. I now own my second Baron 56TC with the 541 engines. These are great engines strong running at 41.5 mp and 2900 rpms. Whatever has been going wrong it's not because of bad engine design, it's got to be the operator, oils or bad quality control of replacement parts. "I feel the need" "need for speed."
