Tony, what a fantastic and accurate recap! You must have a loving wife - if I was in your shoes, at this stage I would be talking with a lawyer…. jajajaja.

Do you keep all of these in OKC? I need to fly up this spring and visit.

I do!

I flew Chuck Doyle's F2 replica last summer and all I can say is WOW! I have an OTW which is an incredibly elegant airplane, but I now fully understand the love affair that people have with the F2's. It is a magical airplane. If I were looking to replace my OTW and F2 would be top of the list!

Tony just for comparison sake have you been able to fly a Kinner CK Bird to compare to the RNF?

No I haven’t. I haven’t had the chance to fly anything with a Kinner. Love the sound they make.

I first saw that F-2 at Rhinebeck maybe 10 years ago and it is spectacular. It's like every biplane designed up to that point was trying to find the right combination of proportions and curves that Waco found with the F-2.

I'm partial to the paint job on this one.

NC 13071 was restored by the Wood's shop in 1989. Chris, Scott and their Dad restored a number of Waco F2's going back to the 1970's. Scott and his wife Annie both had F2's for a time and Chris still owns one. They did amazing work. My UBF 2 passed through their hands and some of the airframe and rigging work was done by them.

Here is a link to a video of Chris's that is absolutely spectacular:

https://www.chriswoodsdirector.com/films/waco

Scott mentioned this evening there's a rumor the one in video may come to market...

While I'm at it here is a video of my F2 and F3 flying together at Airventure last summer shot by the EAA:

Another great F2 video. Toward the end the shots with the moon are amazing. If this doesn't want to make you fly a biplane nothing will.

I have read Richard Back's Biplane 3 times in my life. Each reading has been followed by a massive lust to buy a biplane for myself. Someday I'll read it with enough money in the checking account to make that happen.

Great book! Michael McCafferty's "The Spirit of Adventure" did me in...

The one from the link to Chris Wood's website is one he shot and edited. He's a professional. The other one, Redjacket, his brother Scott sent to me that a friend of his had done. I'm guessing it was professional too. The Waco's Over Oshkosh was shot by the EAA photographer on his iPhone during a photo shoot at Airventure for one of their magazines (I've done the interview but don't yet know which magazine and when it will be published). Those two are mine. The cream colored one is based out of NY now and I'm not sure about the red one. Both were restored by the Woods. Chris has volunteered to shoot a video for me and I'm definitely going to take him up on it!

P.S. Watching these on a large home entertainment screen with a good audio system is really amazing!

Tony, if you need a wing man let me know and I'll gladly volunteer!

Hey, I recognize that Waco, Michael! I bought it from Fred and still regret selling it. A sweet flying F7 (when the engine is running)!
