It hit the concrete and blew it up 325' in the air.
The concrete hit the bottom area around the engines and took out the hydraulics. The hydraulics that is used to pull the locking pins at the top so that the rocket can deploy from the booster. Woof! Where did that picture come from? That'll leave a mark on Mars

It's really interesting to see the contrast in culture between the old school NASA launches and the SpaceX team. NASA MCC was huge on creative thinking outside the box, and yet they still had a "uniform" of sorts with roughly the same color and style shirts and ties. It looks like you'd be hard-pressed to find two people wearing the same thing in SpaceX launch control. I don't know if that matters, but I think they are deliberately pushing a culture of independent thought. Two approaches to the same goal. Also interesting on the habit of applause after a RUD (rapid unplanned disassembly) so the team is celebrating the knowledge gained even if the thing blew up. Obviously that changes once they have people at the pointy end.
Regardless, it was a heck of a show and I can't wait for the next one.
