2x the thrust of a Saturn V... incredible.

Would love to learn more about seeing those steering jets going off. Were those automatic or a human attempt to save?

The telematics, animation, and onboard cameras are so cool.

Armstrong or Crossfield would have dumped the booster and finished the test. ;)

The dreaded 3 engine out liftoff. That's why it was so slow off the pad.

At times they showed as many as 5 out, and then 4 as if they got one restarted.

Getting them all started seems to be an issue. Suspect lighting them off difficult due to supersonic exhaust flow from neighboring engines.

Looks like it was FTS at the end.

The tower is still intact, so success!

You need those F1's.

Never a failure.

Ever.

Well, there was a problem with the F1, pogo effect.

https://www.nasa.gov/feature/50-years-a ... ogo-effect

Could have injured the crew and did cause damage to parts of the rocket.

The pogo effect on the F1 was never really solved outright but mitigated with treatments.

The dynamics of moving tons of fuel per second are non trivial.

Well aware of the pogo.
Didn't they make a "diffuser" plate kinda thingy that smoothed combustion and solved that?
3 zillion holes...or something.

Please elaborate the treatments. Can you tell me what the yellow flames meant toward the end?? Otherwise, quite amazing! Only launch ever that people applauded when it blew up!

That was tried early in the development as I recall, ultimately not a winning solution.

More on pogo in NASA:

The yellow and orange flames are indicative of abnormal combustion. A good burn on the Raptor engine will produce a clear to blue flame, like a gas stove. Anything else is something that doesn’t belong there (like engine parts burning).

Pad may be "intact" but there were for sure large pieces of concrete flying all over. This is one of NASASpaceFllight's vans for camera relays. Maybe they should've used a bigger water deluge/flame trench?

Or any water deluge or flame trench.

This was done with none of them. Maybe consider it a a baseline against which the performance of the other systems can be measured.

I guess they have the start of a flame trench now :D

Be careful where you park.

I doubt there is any human involvement or “pilot”
