Is there an IO-720 with turbos STC applicable to the 685? A few less HP but a lot more reliability

Sounds like a nice ride, if it has been well maintained. Of course it will cost more than a Baron to operate. Pressurized, air conditioned, reasonably fast.

Years ago I flew air attack on a contract for the FS in a 680FL, Mr. RPM conversion, twin-turbo (4 turbos total) with manual waste gates. Great airplane, loved it, a pleasure to fly! But one needs to manage power carefully  PS. Not sure what the upkeep and maintenance costs would be today?
