Ha! You're right; I hadn't even noticed that the comment about TN ops in the midwest came from the OP.
And I agree with Jim. I'd love the ability to keep making 75% horsepower at higher altitudes.

I don't think it has altitude pre-select, With that said, great low altitude or high altitude plane. Use the de-rated o-540 to climb full power at 1000+ FPM up to 10k if needed and then 500 FPM all the way to 17k or so. Dirt simple operations and cheap maintenance with the de-rated carbed engine. 152 knots at 6k burning 13.5 GPH, 162 knots at 12k, and 170 knots at 17k, again burning 13.5. Big useful load, and great short field performance. Wet wing instead of bladders, etc, etc. Very underrated airplane that is cheap to maintain and insure.

What's behind the panel that forces the 6 pack to be offset outboard like that? I notice the same thing with normal C182s. I did my CSU/retract check outs in a C182RG back in the early 80s - wonderful aeroplane. I was supposed to be doing it that day in a C172RG but locked the keys inside during the walk around - and believe it or not none of the other Cessna keys they had (a whole box of em) would open it. They threw the keys of the 182Rg at me and said "Try not to lock these inside you dickhead" Good luck with the sale.

Legions of 182 pilots never noticed until it was pointed out, myself and one of my favorite CFIs included.
I didn’t learn about until my club started looking into doing a GI275 panel upgrade and our quotes started coming back suggesting this change. My avionics shop moved mine over. It WAS weird that the instruments were offset.
