Interested in hearing from people that have researched or better yet flown these planes as to the pros and cons. So far IMHO:

Mustang: Pros: price, cockpit comfort, cockpit visibility, support? Finish. Ease of flying, landing specs(brakes)
Phenom100: ramp appeal, cabin, support? Speed?

Interesting that at FL41 I think the Phenom and the mustang are both Mach .6 planes. The 100 excels down around FL 29-35 but then burns a lot more fuel. Also interesting that I think both are limited to -60C.

Range:Conklin and Decker give the Phenom a big edge here in NBAA IFR range, yet real world? Much difference?

Following CJP the Mustang is very popular. Little gotchas here and there, like any of these planes. But very popular. CJP is a very very active organization. The Embraer site is similar to a grave site in comparison.

Ref and approach speeds are about the same. Trailing link gear makes all landings smooth.

Mustang - smaller G1000 PFDs, non-private lav, smaller cabin, almost non-existent cabin step, massive number of cup holders

Phenom 100 - larger airplane, larger cabin, more mature feeling (feels much more expensive), true steps into cabin, rear club seating extends into aisle, floor is lower allowing a regular sized person to stand up, private lav, laminate storage space, cavernous tail baggage area, quirky "digital on/off" toe brakes.

The Phenom FTW...

The Phenom is very comparable to a CJ1+.

The Phenom has a bigger ramp presence. The CJ might have a tiny bit more range. There a CJ type ratings and schools everywhere but really only one training provider for the Phenom and so the training costs are significantly higher. Both are fantastic airplanes.

The Mustang is a much smaller less capable airplane. It's not a peer of a Phenom 100.

Neither jet spends much time at FL410. The time vs fuel curve bends at FL360 for the Phenom (let me know if you need more info to understand this very important consideration as it really doesn't come into play until you fly a jet). The majority of my flights are between FL360 and FL380. The -60C limit is a PIA during the winter; especially this year with the Polar Vortex. It is the subject of much scorn back to Embraer as we've never received a clear reason for the limit. The other hot issue is the 10Y gear overhaul that has no low cycle-count extension; crazy. These subjects will be once again vigorously addressed by owners at the June conference. It is true the EJOA blog has limited traffic; but frankly there just isn't that much to discuss that is specific to the Phenom.
PS - The Phenom 100EV competes with the M2 and the Honda Jet. The Mustang is 1/2 step below; don't get me wrong it is a very nice jet just like the new Vision Jet is probably going to be a nice aircraft but it is two steps below the Phenom 100.

The Mustang is a much better short field plane (particularly with respect to landing).
As for the avionics the P100 has 3 - 12" screens vs the Mustang 10.4" PFD's and 15" MFD

I don't think a good Mustang can be bought for 1 mil. Mustang works good on 3000' Land in less.

Be careful on the landing numbers, use the unfactored book numbers. Embraer pads the hell out of the contaminated field numbers. If you figure both jets have approximately the same Vref, the same tires and the Phenom carries about 1000lbs more weight, ~15%. The landing distances aren't going to be drastically different.

Let's not forget the $1,000 a month landing gear overhaul reserves on the Phenom. The Phenom is a beautiful machine and the Mustang is enjoyed by everyone that owns it but they are not in the same league. The Phenom sits up tall and looks stately.

Regardless, my Citation II Disposajet outperforms them both and leaves about $1.5 million in the bank for Jet A and holds 4 more people so I won't be shopping for either anytime soon.

Philip - would it need to be complied with part 91? The P180 Avanti has a 12 year "mandatory" gear overhaul that would set you back a whopping $300K. It was ironclad. But guess what, a few owners asked for clarification from FAA and sure enough, turned out it wasn't mandatory at all. Might be similar thing here?
