Great to hear Michael. Any sense of an hourly operating cost yet?

I've got a 1981 550 and after 3 years of 91 mostly single pilot ops, I'm at about $1,200/hr. We do buy millions of gallons of fuel per year and get pretty good pricing on fuel. Most light MX has been done in our own hangar.
Pretty Plane! Congrats... Here's mine... I can't say I've been as fortunate on the maintenance side. Lots of small stuff - Air Conditioning has been a big pain... Cosmetic cabin items, GCU, wingtip lights wiring harness, radar issues, elevator servo, door seal, nose baggage door locks, 2 fuel leaks... Citations need to fly - I've found that when it sits more than a month I'm almost guaranteed a squalk.
Its a fun machine though... I wish you all the best! I however, am downsizing to a Baron or Duke!

About 150-200 between the 3 of us... The plane had a LOT of kinks that came out after the first 6 months though. I would estimate we'll be more like 900/hr going forward. I think we ended up spending close to 100K in the 1st year which made an impact. She was a hangar queen in a past life...

Any issues with parts availability?

Hangar: $600 a month Insurance: $625 Maintenance (estimated): $1000 So, let's call it $2,225 in fixed costs per month. Variable Costs: Fuel: $525 Engines: $200 Fixed costs over 100 hrs per year: $223 I think maintenance will be a little cheaper and the engines are a sunk cost but I'll throw them in to be fair. So I think it's probably $900-1000/hour to operate it 100 hours per year. My buddy's Mustang is probably double this if you throw in Pro Plan Everything and the cost of capital. I think the Klingon jet is a wiser move as you could buy 6 Klingons for every one Mustang.

Mike,
You're probably correct but let me try to dream here for a little bit. I'll report back if and when things break and what it takes to fix them. I honestly believe the legacy Citation series doesn't break and when things do break, there is a plethora of reasonably priced used parts available. That's what great about these old airplanes: simple, robust systems and a lack of high dollar shiny displays that can and do go bad. Maybe it would be better to split the unexpected expenses with the planned maintenance like Phase inspections. I'll try to keep track of that and report back.
Far and away the most expensive airplane I've owned maintenance and time wise was the P Baron. The jets are infinitely easier and possibly cheaper to own than a complicated piston twin. With such a huge spread between 100LL and Avgas at some of the places I visit, operating a legacy jet is only marginally more expensive than a legacy piston twin. Time will tell.

Good luck with that.Mike C. Estimating $12K/yr for maintaining a legacy Citation only means you haven't owned it long enough... Without assistance from programs, I'd double that number.

Probably correct but still cheaper to own than my friend's programmed up Mustang. I'll keep tabs and report back.
