I did answer the question, it’s a big, expensive airplane. No one is going to place that much value and liability in a single person’s hands.

No insurance company would allow it, and as Mike pointed out, you are talking about a huge piece of alluminum... liabilty for those on the ground is a huge issue.

I think you should fly with someone in the right seat. What if you have a medical issue?

A Phenom is almost $9MM. I carry $25MM in insurance. What's the cutoff price?

You've gone from claiming so sort of "difficulty" in single pilot ops to changing the subject to costs. Which is it? If a G650 has Garmin 3000 just like the Phenom 300, what's the difference?

Without any time spent in a trained crew environment, it’s hard to appreciate the value of an additional crew member.

When we fly SP GA we accept a less safe experience in exchange for our convenience.

That's the exact attitude I'm talking about.

I've flown myself on countless long trips by myself. What is it about long distance travel you think is so difficult? Why is a "trained crew" necessary?

Here's a trained crew G4 that ran itself off the end of the runway and killed everyone. These pilots were highly highly regarded as some of the best in the business.

whilst Mike may not agree with me on the safety of the PC12

The PC12 is a very safe airplane.

I still prefer having two engines.

Quote:
the integrated functionality and simple systems, with very clear instructions when issues arise, make it safer than most airplanes of it's class. Not infallible, but definitely safer.

Yet, PC12 pilots manage to screw it up sometimes in all the usual ways they do in other types.

Last four PC12 fatals are apparently loss of control, two right after takeoff, two in flight breakups.

The plane simply can't protect the pilot from themselves.

It's funny that those that have flown both single pilot and also trained and flown 2 pilot airplanes, don't argue that requiring 2 pilots is ridiculous. Those who have not done both have very strong opinions against it.

Flying a turbine 172 does not make one an expert.

It is sorta like talking guns with Pelosi...

Having flown 2 pilot in my airplane a fair amount, I know the value of it during the flight. I'd love to have it all the time in flight.

Don't confuse "I need to have an SP plane" with "this jet should be SP".

I need to have an SP plane. I'm not saying any given jet needs to be SP.

I would like to know what makes a jet not able to be SP, a question that hasn't been answered in a practical sense. Legally, the trite answer is that part 25 can't be, and part 23 commuter can be, but that's not very insightful as to the underlying reasons.

It's funny, those here arguing the importance of flying with 2 pilots also make a living flying as one of the 2 pilots or make a living selling 2 pilot airplanes.

FIFY. GA is all about convenience, period. If you give that up then what’s the point? If I wanted someone else to do the flying and scheduling for me I would take Southwest.

I am neither, but, then again, I am not arguing.

The argument of whether two pilots is safer than one is silly. Pilot error accounts for most accidents so 2 sets of trained eyes will mitigate mistakes. The actual work load for 2 pilots has been reduced with technology but the redundancy of 2 pilots makes complete sense when the total cost of an accident is considered. Why would anyone spend millions of dollars for safety considerations on an airplane that costs thousands an hour to operate to save the cost of a copilot?

That being said, most of us love to hone our skills and be the best single pilots we can be and I think the risks are marginal if we live and breath safety in our machines.

Well Thomas Allen. Your profile isn’t filled out. I don’t know anything about you. Why so secretive?

Nothing more then a filled out profile like everyone else has. When I don’t see an airplane listed I assume you’re a corporate pilot.

I’ve been here long enough and posted enough pictures everyone know me. I see no reason to be so secretive. It’s like blurring our your license plate in pictures but then driving down the street for everyone to see it. Makes no sense.

I never mention the length of the trip?

If “length of trip” isn’t a reason for additional crew then what is? Most arguments for it in this thread have to do with “length of trip”.

it’s easy to appreciate the value of an additional crew member if you ignore all the downsides.
