Had the pleasure to meet Captain Dave of Quantas as he went out on the town Saturday night to mark the end of an era for Quantas as Sunday he would for the last time fly the 747-400 on the Dallas to Sydney haul.

The Airbus 380 will now take over the route for Quantas & Captain Dave's trips will now take him into LAX.

No'U' in QANTAS. Not to worry, it's a common error.

The airline has even set up a Internet address Quantas.com that redirects you to the correct one!

Hope Capt. Dave had eight hours between bottle and throttle

No "U"? Wow, I have never noticed that.

Correction made. No bottle to throttle issues.

We did chat for quite awhile about a Qantas Pilot that many were upset about being unfairly penalized for making the decision to taxi on the inboard engines due to worries over ice ingestion on 1 & 4. That was also a Dallas / Sydney flight believe it or not.

Looks like QF8 cut right over Cabo.

Funny story.

About 10 years ago my sister came over to the US on a QF 747 to visit me.

The aircraft blocks into LAX around 6 am and shuts down. The Captain then announces over the PA that although the flight was complete, US Customs were not ready yet so he was going to keep the pax onboard for 15 minutes until they were.

My sister was sitting in business class in the top deck when the Captain comes out of the cockpit. He looks down the aisle and sees one of the flight attendants.

He yells out "Hey Tommo! We've been in the blocks 5 minutes! Where's my beer?!"

Tommo quickly apologized, grabbed a beer and tossed it to the Captain who procedured to drink it in front of the applauding passengers!

I can't ever see an American pilot doing that .. Don't imagine the FAA would have been impressed :).
