Looking for opinions on whether this upgrade would be worth the money. (78K) I've read all the sales pitch info but looking for independent opinions. Our prop calendars out July 2015 so we're looking at a 12K overhaul there that could be put towards the 5 blade.

Also looking for the value of 1600TT factory prop we have now. They offer 20K trade in credit on the 5 blade.
Thanks in advance.

All the word I get is you will lose performance. They look kick as though.

I heard stories from TBM owners that were grounded with the MT blades damaged as it had to be sent to Germany for repair.

20k trade in is not bad for a 5 year old prop, I see $9k being offered on an almost new metal prop trade in on the new 5 blade Hartzell for the TBM.

Skip the overhaul and either keep flying or send it for a reseal/IRAN.

MT on the TBM is slower by 4-5 kts also.

Its too short, the 5 blade composite Hartzell is the same lenght as the metal prop.

Im sure Hartzell is working on the STC for the PC12.

Honestly, can't believe you are not rocking one of these. I think it brings the plane and the longer nose together. Wonder what it sounds like.

It's a $50K upgrade for the PC12.

I've heard it hurts cruise speed. Don;t know if it's true

Gents,

Our PC-12 was brokered by Finnoff, he has pitched the blades and -67P upgrade, we passed on both. The prop after speaking to Alpha / Atlas that had 4-5 MT props on their fleet. The 78K wasn't really worth it: reports of blade damage and difficulty in towing by some FBO tugs vs the Hartzell prop. The Engine upgrade also died quickly as the 600K to upgrade the -67P for a 20Kt gain was just hard compare with putting that cost to an Citation Excel.

We did the prop for $10645 last year you can overhaul the props 2-3 more times even with blade replacements vs the MT cost.

Nigel

As did my 4 bladed MT prop itch for my baron 58 when I did a little investigating . . . Went with the Hartzell metal scimitar and have been very satisfied.

Guess I'm just too cheap ... but what's all this talk of an overhaul being "due"/

You're part 91 and don't have to overhaul the prop.

You are correct but I want to follow Pilatus' prescribed maintenance schedule. I see it as taking care of the investment.

One could argue that grinding down the prop blades doesn't further that goal.
