Probably MU-2 if you can rationalize the risks.

Can you really do 300 KTAS in a MU2?
Realistically guys if your flying privately and only 100 hrs a year, I wouldnt buy a MU2.

I think TR was referring to how we talk to Mooney owners - - "Of course I do 180 KTAS on 12 GPH, don't you?"

Realistically guys if your flying privately and only 100 hrs a year, I wouldnt buy a MU2. From a proficiency standpoint there is some concern, but from a cost standpoint a pilot who only flies 100 hours per year is likely better off in the MU-2 versus a SETP. The fuel burn is higher in the MU-2, but the cost of capital is higher for the SETP. So all-in cost to operate for N hours/year will favor the twin for low values of N and the single for high values.

Username Protected wrote: Can you really do 300 KTAS in a MU2? Yep, I do it almost every time I fly. I lose a few knots (295-ish) in the hot summer at high altitudes and heavy weights. But was doing 310-315 yesterday coming back from KJAC at FL200, roughly ISA at altitude. Quote: Realistically guys if your flying privately and only 100 hrs a year, I wouldnt buy a MU2. It's exactly what I do. Works out great for me. Low capital cost keeps the total annual cost more affordable than having a high capital cost but more efficient SETP like the TBM.
