My overhead panel light rheostat has gone TU. The Cessna part no is XR6085. I would like a better alternative than the one original to the plane as it runs very hot, does not last, and they are stupid expensive. I am not interested in a salvage part and there has to be a better alternative. I found a dimming led that is a drop in for the 12 wt GE bulb. Any idea on what might work?

MaxDim dimmers (not inexpensive, but they work well).

+1 for the Maxdim product, it'll work with both incandescent & LED lights as I believe it uses PWM to change the intensity. Installed around 20 of them in a fleet of survey aircraft over 8 years and I don't remeber any failures.

I like the MaxDimmer also. I've installed a couple of them in my airplane.

The only issue that I've had is some buzzing feedback in the ICS in one of the airplane. That airplane was a 182 with a 1995 avionics installation prior to the common use of shielded wiring. I'm assuming that was the issue. I no long own it, so I stopped looking into the fix a while back.
