Does anyone know what is the best aftermarket air conditioning system I can install in my Cessna T 210? Thanks

Search high and low for a broken aircraft with Cessna Factory AC.
Then have that installed in yours.
No STC required and parts prob won't cost an arm + a leg.

Here is the MM for the Cessna AC inc Parts numbers:

You may want to also consider the CoolAir option - the website appears to show C210T as an approved install.

I have the CoolAir system in my B55 Baron and it works pretty good. Theoretically you can pre-cool your airplane on the ground as the unit is electric. You would probably need some type of "power cart" since the system draws better than 50 amps when running - not likely you can get that out of an extension cord.....

Good luck!!

Espen,

Could you reload the Drop Box file for me?

I am trying to help a friend fix his "Factory" Air Conditioning system, he does not have any reference material on a 81 P-210 :-(
Other that the factory MM which only shows the factory ventilation system.

It appears the Co-Pilot fan motor is not operating, but has power and ground.
Removal of the fan motor for overhaul looks to me like the whole A/C unit has to come out.
There does not look like any way to un-bolt the fan/motor for removal while installed in the airplane.

Am I understanding it correctly that the factory system was a STC'd system from Keith?
Do you have any other maintenance information on this A/C system?

No.

The factory system is definitely not the Keith system. It's essentially an automotive system with the compressor in the nose (I believe it's run mechanically off an accessory pad on the engine, but it's been a while) and the evaporator/condenser in the tail.

One of the major design flaws of the system is that there are long lines to run the freon from the compressor in the nose to the evaporator/condenser in the tail and after 30+ years those line can get pinprick leaks easily.

There is an AC manual that Cessna produced which covers a couple of different aircraft including the 210. I don't think I have a copy anymore, but I'll check.

The factory system is OK... It's better than nothing, but don't expect it to cool your cabin like your new Lexus. Essentially it's an air conditioning system from an 1978 Pinto that has been crammed into an airplane.

Thanks Robert,

Any reference material that you might have would be great.
The system has 2-separate evaporators with 2-separate expansion valves, hoses, hardware ect.
Talk about complicated and many places to leak, not to mention 10lbs of **** in a 5lb bag I think the Pinto is a good analogy

I’ve got the Peter Schiff Sophie installed in my Baron. My buddy put it in his 210. Is it as good as sitting in a new Mercedes? No. But I can tell you that I’ve never dripped One drop of sweat flying the airplane so I consider that a success. You should give them a call.

I’m currently having the Peter Schiff SofieLite unit installed in my Bonanza at their facility in Livingston TN. It’s supposed to be ready for pickup next Monday (6-3-2024) or Tuesday. I’ll be scheduling a commercial flight back to pick her up and bring her home to CA. Mine is the 24v system which I am hopeful will really help here in the summer months. I will have a PIREP on the unit after my flight home.

Install start date was 5-13-2024 or about 3 weeks. There were 2 others in the shop when I dropped off the Bonanza on 5-10-2024 and I’m also sure mine was probably not worked on every day. I also had them add a 150 amp alternator as part of the install. 900 RPM’s idle should provide excess power for full A/C power while taxiing and ground maneuvers.

I’m curious if your Baron and your friends 210 have 12v or 24v systems?

Jim

All the barons are 24 V. I really don’t think the 12 V electric system will work very well

Hi Jim-- how's the Sofie working for you this summer? Sweaty inquiring minds want to know.

Paul, due do business demands the only flight I have had so far is the one from TN to CA. With that limited exposure, I would say my overall impression is positive. AS others have said, and to which I will agree, it ain't like my Jaguar but it sure is better than anything else I have had. The unit vents from the back to the front which I think is the main drawback of any of these units. I don't know anyway to get around that without a dash or panel mounted unit. I had a 150 amp alternator installed along with the unit which provides the necessary amperage to operate the unit at around 950 - 1,000 RPM's. This is a game changer on the ground while taxiing. Good practice dictates the unit be turned off before raising the gear and before lowering the gear. The shutdown cycle is approximately 20 seconds before unit should be switched back on. I noticed when landing back in Fresno, CA, that I did a gradual decent from approximately 10,000 down to 2,500 and I remained comfortable in the cabin. It wasn't "HOT" that particular day but it was pretty warm and usually the cabin just continues to get warmer on this type of descents which makes for a fairly "wet" landing by the time I get to the airport. Overall, at this point I would say as I mentioned at the beginning, that I am pleased with the unit and it's performance.

Jim
