At EAA AirVenture, Blackhawk Aerospace is displaying its test bed aircraft for its new PT6A-66D Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) program for the Daher TBM Model 700 series single engine turboprop aircraft.

The STC will cover the TBM 700A, 700B, and 700C2 models and boost their performance to that of the TBM 850 model.

From what I hear from my P180 friends (same engine), the P&W pricing is so eye-watering that it probably makes it a marginal proposition. On top of that you have to add Blackhawks markup on the STC and conversion and I can't see this being a cent under $2 million. Isn't it just cheaper to sell the 700 and buy a used 850 instead?

But maybe Blackhawk gets OEM pricing that's competitive? Seems to be P&W's MO.

I used to work on turbine engine installation design at Cessna. OEM engine pricing is pretty confidential; I mostly didn't know it.

Blackhawk can buy engines from P&W cheaper than you and I can, that’s for certain.
They do get a good deal and try to make it an economical purchase when you are staring down an expensive Hot.

Does anyone know about a pitot cowl mod for 700s and 850s? I saw a picture of an 850 with a modified pitot cowl.

What are the panel options for the 700s? So you get a nice fancy new engine but what to go with it?

AirVenture visitors can see N590JL, the TBM 700C2 that Blackhawk is modifying, at the company’s show exhibit. Avex’s Camarillo, California team has already refurbished this TBM with a new interior and LED interior lighting, fresh paint by ArtCraft Paint, and a full panel of Garmin avionics. These include dual 10-inch G600 TXi displays with engine indication system; a GCU 485 keyboard controller; GFC 600 digital autopilot with envelope protection; GI 275 standby indicator; dual transponders; and GWX 75R digital color radar.

Full Garminization is available. TXIs, GTN 750s, GFC 600, the works.

Is it a private equity owner? In that case I know for sure it won't be cheap.. ;)

Wonder if the STC included testing to takeoff at full power like in the 900s.

I think american aviation was looking at a pitot cowling (hopefully getting rid of the airspeed limitation on inertial separator use?)

Think trade in value could make a nice dent on the $1m purchase price?

That same type of cowl is $95K on the Pilatypus, right?
