This is a picture of the cockpit side window on a C-54. There is a slot to hold something as well as some sort of attach point up above the window as well. Both sides of the cockpit have this. None of the manuals I have reference it. I also can’t find any photos online. We have lots of ideas but no firm idea what this was for. Anyone have any clue?

I’m pretty sure those are for metal plates that correspond to the rank of whatever GO is on board. On the EC-135J’s, those plates were put up on the inside of the L1 window.

Let me see if I can find you a pic.

As noted it’s for a holds the ID plate for flag officers. Typically the number of stars.
Also known as “handicapped parking plate.”

I am thinking that the clip above the window may be a clip to install a rope or ladder of some sort for emergency egress.

Great answers so far. That’s what we thought on the “holder” but haven’t found any photos. The clip above the window is the bigger mystery, as Norman said maybe egress but there’s a separate setup for that so I really don’t know.

I probably put this post in the wrong forum - maybe Plane Talk would have been better. But either way if anyone finds a picture of that, that would be really helpful!

When I flew on one from Bangkok to Ton Son Nhut, don't think they put on an ID plate with a silver bar.
