Thank you for posting that photo - brought back some very good memories of spending a little quality time with a I SP at Cessna in the early '80s - and it parked on the ramp with five or six others. Walked away from the flights with a multi-engine ATP (already had the single-engine version) and a CE-500 type rating. Gawd, ancient history. The III hadn't even made it to the market. The 501 had probably the best handling of any jet of its era (of course I'm objective).

And, no, the 501 isn't so old that the original was open cockpit.

After flying 20 series Lears I remember opening up the FlightSafety manual on the 501, folding out the electrical system diagram and wondering where the rest of it was. Wonderfully simple, straightforward design. You sure picked a great airplane to get attached to.

In the late seventies us Air Force guys applying to the airlines were running up Dallas to get an ATP in the CE-500. All were painted yellow. I think it cost me $500 plus the GI Bill.
