Anyone willing to share insurance cost info for a Cessna 210? I’m a 220 hour IR PPL hoping to have commercial by June 2020. Avemco said I’m uninsurable until 250 TT and it would be $9,300/year then...ouch. I’ll be calling Falcon tomorrow, but I’m just curious what others have to say. I need 6 seats and most A36 are out of my budget (150k). I just sold a 6/300.

I dropped 210’s from my search list for the insurance rates.

Also try calling Tom (BT sponsor), got me a good on rate on my current ride.

Falcon is good as well.

Have 210 policies always been high or is that a recent change?

I’m 1800+ tt, IR, ppl 250 in T-210.
Last year was $3600 for 175,000 hull and a million smooth thru AOPA.
I’m waiting on this years quote.
Avemco told me million smooth was not available.

Not recent, that was when I was searching in 2017.

I appreciate the quick responses. Sounds like I may cross the 210 off my list. I like the options a turbo provides, but I may have to find a T Saratoga. I’ll contact Falcon and report back for the benefit of the group.

I had a 210 for several years. Avemco was always an outlier wrt highest premiums. Look somewhere else.

As for 6 seats, you're looking at a 210M or later and they (along with all strutless) have an AD for the spar carry through member.

It was my experience that the only true 6 seat versions were turbo charged or pressurized. In that case, you will be paying higher premiums as this is a "whole-nother" ball game.

I have about 1200 hours in my 210. About $3400 with $165,000 hull and 2 million smooth. I don't believe Avemco writes any smooth policies. My broker shops it around every year but we always end up with USAIG having the best rates. I would definitely recommend getting a quote from a different insurer. Avemco was always among the highest even without smooth coverage.

When I got the 210 I could only get per seat limits and it was very expensive. I don't remember how much, but several thousand sounds right. I needed 5 hours dual and 10 hours solo before passengers. After the first year and over 100 hours, the rates dropped way down and I could get smooth coverage. Instrument rating was a requirement for all the insurers, which I had already had.

The first year hurts a bit but then it becomes better.

Just another data point, but two years ago when I was looking for my first plane. ~500 TT, IFR rated. The 210 vs the A36 with identical hull values was almost double the cost with three different companies that I looked into. I had always wanted a 210, growing up flying my dads 182 but that was the nail in the coffin for me.

Glad to talk on Monday.

For reference, I got insured with similar hours and a fresh multi in a $225k hull value B55 for less than your 210 quote.

might want to check out a Turbo lance. Same useful load and maybe a bit slower, but I'd guess insurance would probably be a decent amount cheaper.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and info. I’ll be asking Falcon about a Baron tomorrow as well. If I’m going to stretch for a Beechcraft it may as well be a Baron because my kids are growing quick.

I have 0 time in T210, 410 hrs TT and IR and I was getting quoted $3480 for my first year on $145k hull $100k per pass. and $1 mil. I thought that was pretty good.

...if only someone on BEECHtalk would have an idea of another common brand that has produced 3000+ very capable six seat single that meets the same criteria as the 210... hmmm
