I have a C425 and I started it with my mechanic on board and he said my battery was getting weak because the voltage drops to 10-12 VDC right when the starter is engaged. Ng stabilizes at around 18% on a battery start, start temps are low, and the last battery capacity check was 86%. Can anyone else with a PT6-112 powered 425 tell me what voltage they see right when the starter is engaged?

How old is your battery?

IMHO, If you can make 18% I would say you have a pretty good battery...

OK I appreciate the feedback and I will keep an eye on it. I'm not looking forward to $2500 on a new battery if I don't have to.

I know. I was in the shop last week looking at a 441 and thinking "at least I don't have two batteries"

When I was researching batteries I noticed there is a RG380/46 which appears to be the exact same size as the 44 but it has slightly higher capacity (46 A-h rather than 44 and higher cranking amps). It weighs 3 lbs more. Could that be used as a legal replacement for a RG380/44? They are about the same price so it might be good to get as much capacity as possible.

Just ordered a replacement batt for our new to us 425. Ours has an almost 4 year old Gill 6381E which was a shocker when I looked up the install date. Paid $1560 through Aircraft Spruce.

Switched to Concorde AGM and have been much happier even considering the higher price. Battery Minders work, mine are on them 24/7 when at home base. Mike C.

Finally replaced the Concorde RG380E/42. According to the logs it was 12 years old. My mechanic just laughed and said he'd never heard of a turbine battery going that long. But the new battery is a RG380E/46 and instead of 16-18% Ng when I introduce fuel it's 22%. It starts as the same ITT temperature as on a power cart. $2700, but I've beaten with the turbine stick for months now and it doesn't even sound that expensive anymore...

Sounds like a battery changed occurred that wasn't logged. 12 years in a turbine is defying reason. How many starts would that have been? Quote: But the new battery is a RG380E/46 and instead of 16-18% Ng when I introduce fuel it's 22%. That's probably more new versus old than the slight increase in capacity of the new model. Mike C.
