The dealer left this thing with us for a month. It's an Evolution VL3 rotax 100hp. Retracts, full Garmin system with AP, constant speed prop, 135kts, 1000nm range, 25kt stall, awesome controls, 180k new. Parachute.

Looks like a baby Lancair

If anyone wants one, let me know. I'm not buying it but it's an impressively cool airplane. Climbs out at 1000FPM at gross.

What's it's certification status in the US? Factory built but not LSA.

With the new rules, post-medical people won't be limited to LSA designs anymore. I've been thinking something like this would be very cool, cheap to run and fast enough to get somewhere. But it's still limited by Euro Microlight rules -- not much useful load, lower stall speed than you need unless you're bush-flying (not likely with a low wing and tiny wheels), not much baggage space. Ideal would be something like a Lancair Legacy sized for a Rotax (912 or 915iS), get as much speed as you can for 2 people and luggage on Rotax running costs. And it'd have to be Experimental w/ a factory assist option, certification costs would kill it and the "spend years in your garage" option gets less attractive post-retirement.

They are adding the 914 option and it supposedly goes 160kts

That would be a nice plane! I can't see a 25k stall though. Even for the smaller one. Doesn't look possible with the airfoils.

I flew it and stalled it. The stall broke at 25kts indicated, well maybe it was 28 but it was definitely below 30. Pretty insane!! Fabulous control harmony; light a little fighter plane. Electric motor smooth also.

This one is registered as experimental exhibition. I'm not really sure how they could sell these in serial production in the US. It's not a kit, light sport or certified airplane. I'm not sure the FAA would allow registration if these complex (retractable and CS prop) microlights start coming over in serious numbers.

That's seriously impressive for a little plane. Their specs say it stalls at 30kts and has a max take off weight of only 1040 pounds with a chute! They have a fixed gear LSA version that they tested up to 1320 pounds.

That's going to be rough in turbulence.

Pray for smooth air.

I doubt it's going to be any rougher than a champ or cub. It's a microlight not an MU2

The company claims they tested it to 16Gs, it's stout.

And yes, these light airplanes seem to bounce around pretty badly in turbulence.

I don't know any champ or cub that goes 160 KTAS.

It is that combination, ultra low stall plus high speed cruise, that will beat the living daylights out of you in turbulence.

E-Exhibition is the deal killer. Their website mentions a fixed-gear version, which could meet LSA rules, but this version doesn't. If certification is even possible it would vastly increase the price. That's why I mentioned a kit with build assist as the only realistic way to sell them here.

I agree, the EAB option wobe be best. The problem with trying to go somewhere in a legal LSA is the prop, fixed gear is fine but you need an in-flight adjustable prop to make it a better travelling machine

I think you misunderstand the Basic Med rules. The disqualifying, legacy conditions still exist ... and they will require (at least) one trip to an AME. Ergo; I think there will still be a place for for LSA.

- Glider & Lighter Than Air ... pilot self-certifies.

- LSA ... somewhere between self-certify and Basic Med, depending upon who is doing the explaining.
