Based on what I see of the market... I wouldn't give more than $150K...here is why

original avionics... junk
known damage history... always more difficult to sell
only single axis autopilot
2 overhauls in 1750 hours?

you can buy this one http://www.controller.com/listings/airc ... 2s-skylane
for $195k and seems in way nicer shape upgrade wise.

VRef says $172k as configured but with no damage history... base value of $152k

If that damage history was a bent firewall/tunnel/floorboards, which most of them are, it will devalue the aircraft considrably even if it was properly repaired. It shouldn't, but it will.

I think the $150,000 figure is pretty close.

Are those your specs or the broker? Like new on a 2000 hour airplane seems like a stretch.

Firewall repair is very common in 182's. And 182 buyers tend to be a fairly practical lot. I wouldn't call that significant damage history. Not much more than hanger rash frankly.

That's the first year of restart 182. The T is supposed to be meaningfully improved. I'd suggest seeing what really nice 182Q's are selling for with glass/waas/two axis AP and figure something in that range.

Avionics are two generations removed but not junk, they work quite well and will get you there just fine. I wouldn't worry about the firewall if it was repaired properly, that's probably the most common mistake a newby pilot will make if accustomed to the 172 and not trained properly on the heavier 182 nose. That said I'd also peg the value somewhere around 150.

I would much rather have a S than a Q. Many hours in both. Q was still a carbureted O-470. S is a IO-540. Much prefer the Lycoming...

Most likely reason for the engine overhaul is to comply with the crank AD. I have shopped and bought this market, I'd say 170's without the damage history. There are to many unbent ones for me to consider one that has been bent.

This is a low end S. I suggested a high end Q might approach the value of an S

Why did someone 3 blade a 230hp bird? It looks cool, but I don't consider it an upgrade without a bigger motor.

This Skylane is not bad, but there's nothing thrilling or fun about it. It's the honda accord of Skylane. It reads like a great reliable lease-back plane to me.

Have you considered a g1000 bird for not much more? The cats meow is 2007+ with the gfc700 autopilot, but they command a premium.

Tom,

I owned a '98 for three years. I have always said, and still do, that if I never had to fly farther than 400 nm I would own nothing else. I flew the same avionics and they work well. Needless to say, a 430 w would be a big upgrade.

The first year of Skylane startup was '97 and in '98 there were changes to the firewall and nose gear structure. The deduct for "damage" should be slight, IMO. All, ?, of the 540 Lycomings of this vintage had to have the crank replaced which accounts for the overhaul. The three blade prop is quieter and I think was standard.

The two big deducts for this airplane are not having a 430w at minimum and the single axis A/P. How big of "items" those are depend on the pilot and your use. I am pretty sure that you can add altitude hold for less than $8,000; that won't be hard to determine.

You asked value. Probably more than I would pay because of the lack of a newer GPS and altitude hold which I would have to add immediately. $150 tops for me.

Jgreen

Have the aircraft professionally appraised if you want to know more. You can find the closest professional appraiser by using the Appraiser Finder on the NAAA's website - http://www.plane-values.com (upper right corner).

The information provided is limited and may be incomplete. The firewall repair is considered to be Major Damage History which will have an impact to the value but this may not be the only event but just the only event listed. There could be other issues that need to be checked and validated to get a number that is legitimate and credible. The local NAAA member can help you quite a bit if you are serious about this aircraft.

Good luck.

Is it for sure single axis? Didn't know 182s could come that way, i know 172s did. Might wanna confirm that because inonce spoke to a broker who thought single axis meant altitude hold (as in any AP had roll so one axis meant adding vertical control)
