Awesome airplane. I haven't had a chance to fly one... but I have heard nothing bad! I have flown the J3 and the Legend Cub and I can tell you the Legend was hands down better... They don't make airplanes like they use to! THEY MAKE THEM A HELL OF A LOT BETTER!

Cubcrafters' newest model, the XCub, looks like an even more versatile airplane than the Carbon Cub. They undertook a big drag reduction program so as to provide significantly higher cruise speeds. http://www.cubcrafters.com/xcubMy vote for a fun, "no travel" airplane would be a Citabria. You get your tailwheel fun, grass runway fun, and if you want to do a few loops and rolls it's 100% approved. For most pilots, the extra "back country" abilities of a Carbon Cub versus any ordinary tailwheel plane would very seldom be used.

Interestingly enough it was my client's purchase of the X-Cub that called my attention to the Carbon Cub now being at a comfortable price range. I don't truly need the Carbon Cub's backcountry capabilities, but I also truly don't need my Porsche and its capabilities. A rocket-like short field take off is the equivalent of gunning it down the freeway onramp It's also a stress free decision as I can start flying it right away without training, I don't have time for a new challenge at the moment...

The main reason is that I don't have much of a mission anymore because kids are taking up a lot of my free time. I'm thinking the Carbon Cub can make a free hour fantastic without having to go anywhere in particular. Love my J3 but have always wanted a modern Cub with electronics and lots of power.
Who has flown them? What's your thoughts on them? Is it a tremendous waste of AMUs?
AG I like the two airplanes you have now! This doesn't answer your question but.........................buy a Clipped Wing with an O-200! A lot less money and a lot more fun! (My humble opinion)

One week ago I took possession of an American Legend Amphibious Cub. It has a Continental 100 HP-D model engine with a 78" Catto Prop. What a fun machine!! The airplane is comfortable in both the front and back seats. Useable fuel is 20 gallons. Burns about 4.5-6 gallons of 100LL per hour. If that isn't sufficient, the float lockers will easily hold another 8 gallons of fuel in individual 2 gallon tanks giving the airplane more range than your bladder. The plane was bought to compliment my go high and fast Piper Mirage. The Legend Cub takes 3 minutes to become airborne from engine crank and the Mirage takes 25 minutes. Two very different missions but IMHO the best two airplanes to accomplish their respective jobs. I considered the Carbon Cub...just to expensive for me to fly low and slow. The Legend Cub is manufactured in Sulphur Springs, TX, 90 miles east of Dallas. Darin Hart owns American Legend Cub. A straight shooter for sure, give him a call. Another brilliant mind who works with Darin is Harvey Cleveland. The factory telephone number is 1.903.885.7000. For an honest critique of the Carbon Cub call Clay Hammond @ 1.860.449.4070, former Sales Manager at Carbon Cub. Mike Brown Chattanooga, TN mike.brown@raymondjames.com423.364.2166

You better do some weight and balance calculations for a Carbon Cub before you buy one. Two normal sized people and full fuel and you'll be over gross (legally), if that doesn't bother you go for it. If it does bother you, you'll be flying solo a lot.

Floats are not included, but can be had for the low low price of $40 AMU's. They are listed above as equipment so I suppose legally you could go after it......don't know how that would work in the real world seeing as how I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.
