I think a lot of these pure-electric concepts will fizzle, but it would seem that there are opportunities to deliver efficient airplanes with good range and excellent performance and reliability using a series hybrid.
Imagine something with electric motors and batteries capable of 600hp for 30min-1hr across 2 or more propellers. Then add an onboard liquid fueled generator(s) with something like 420hp total.
Take off with 100% power and climb to altitude, then cruise on 45-50% power and recharge the batteries inflight with the excess from the gens to be available as reserve for a go-around/divert/contingency, or for the next flight if not tapped into.
That application would decouple a lot of constraints that dog our present-day direct drive IC engines- vibration dynamics & optimum operating RPM to name a few off the top, and open up some interesting designs. Heavy, heavy, heavy.

1. Build another Global Explorer. See video above I'd never seen the Explorer 2 before. That truly is my dream plane. Things I didn't know - the twin was built BEFORE the single! I believe this is the great-grandchild of the Explorer 1. Different designer, same concept. There was a piston version for a while, IIRC, but I can't find it. https://www.exploreraircraft.com/design

I 100% agree with you. But people are buying a new Cirrus every 20 or so hours for 1.2MM when you could buy a cabin class twin cessna for 400-600k and still have 600k left over to operate it for over a decade...people seem to be willing to pay insane money for brand new stuff...

This, exactly as she was designed 210kts 4 place running off a 210hp IO360 Be really cool to also have a option for one with some type of military surplus turbine and change from fiberglass to carbon

I don't think it is the brand new that is bringing them in. I think it is the modern interface between the pilot and the airframe, which makes flying the plane a lot easier in normal situations, and a lot easier with abnormal and emergency situations. What is easier than Oh crap. Pull CAPS. As well as the reality or perception of increased safety. There is a lot going on in the cockpit of a 40 year old twin Cessna compared to a modern aircraft. Even with an updated panel, there is still a lot going on in a twin Cessna. That is intimidating to a lot of pilots, and frankly in an emergency, takes a lot more pilot to achieve the same results. As far as the interface, instrument wise it’s all the same info to me, personally I’d prefer a yoke or normal stick, never was a big fan of the side stick
For the getting a new one every few years I think it’s also part of the demographic, I’d wager they also get a new car every few years too
Cirrus is a great plane for its mission though, trainer easy to fly, has CAPS for the safety obsession, goes fast enough to travel a good distance in good time, fly FIKI or IMC well, good AP, and has a car like interior with AC and everything else
Demographic wise Cirrus hit a home run

I would like to see the Beech TravelAir built again. I got to see the Tiger built again.
It will never happen but those were solid aircraft! One of my old TraveAirs is still flying in NY. It is 63!

Weelll some dots just connected here for me, I saw some strange all grey, high wing, turbine when I was out flying about a month ago, 6/24. They were doing t&g's at my home base KELA. Odd that flight aware doesnt show that flight though, would have been about noonish... adsb isnt required out here so maybe they just werent squawking...
