The shortest runways we (Mountain Air Cargo) fly into with the Caravan are around 5000ft. We have no need for STOL performance. I was personally hoping for a Twotter but it’s fuselage is too narrow and not high enough for Fedex containers. Looking forward to swapping the Van for this. They kept a good lid on the program. Heard about it three weeks ago but could find nothing on the web about the 408.

Wonder if Amazon Prime will be the next target. Saw my first Amazon B767-300 land in Allentown, PA a few weeks back which made me think of them. Lot's of small packages to remote locations - seems like a really good fit for the aircraft and Amazon. Just thinking out loud... Cheers, Brian

I doubt it, no demand for this as its already serve by the Twotter with stol design. Username Protected wrote: I wonder if floats for this beast will ever happen.

It hauls FedEx containers. I bet it is only available in Purple and Orange. Honestly, other than maybe skydivers, don't see much other purpose for it. I think we're seeing a tip of FedEx's future strategy plans. I guess they'll be using these to fly pre-packed containers between mini-hubs and maxi-hubs. My guess is the 208's will see a lot less use and relegated to flying between mini-hubs and outlier airports. But man, what a way to build turbine twin time! It will be the hot ticket for 20-somethings dialing up the ranks. Great way for FedEx to solve its own pilot shortage too.

That is a very good point! These are too light for a type rating,* but FedEx air does love pilots with multiengine turbine PIC hours. Homegrown I bet so much the better. edit: Then again, it may very well tip the scales >12.5 max gross. Two big PT6 is plenty of grunt for that kind of weight.
