The core Cheyenne is a good solid plane, and will get you home, but after 4000 hours or so, they glitchy.

One flight, the prop synchrophaser will stop working
Next flight, the right fuel quantity gage may drop a few hundred pounds, then read correctly a little later
Next, flight, the cabin heater flames out at 17K, comes back on at 16K
Next flight, the left generator may get kicked off line, but comes right back on!
and so on, and so on.

They are great planes for the money, just expect a lot of the above.

Unfortunately, even having a brand new airplane doesn't eliminate these events.

A wildly broad generalization that does not fit any of a half dozen Cheyennes I know the operational history of. More specifically, not one of those has occurred in my 3+ years of Cheyenne ownership.

Well, maybe it has something to do with airplanes living in the Northeast, which has some of the most corrosive air in the country.
I traveled to Loveland,CO. a few years ago to pre-buy a Cheyenne 1 for a customer. I could not get over the pristine condition of this plane. The wiring looked like new! The firewall still shined! After a few years in CT, however, the wiring and firewall aren't so pristine

been flying 1982 Cheyenne I 4 yrs now, 481 hrs, in annual now, have not had any complaints , parts available at a price. Never wanted anything but a KA even after buying from a friend who talked me into it, but after having an flying, great plane for me, longest trip to meet Rick Ott at Spanish Wells , 235 kts, 19-20K is my best altitude performance, 67.5 gph.

Thanks for that PIREP, Gary. Do your plane have the American Aviation ram air recovery inlets and/or speed stacks?

In our 13th year owning/flying a Cheyenne 400. Only 5 non scheduled maint issues in that time (other than avionics) and 4 were minor, 5th was starter/gen issue. Its been a very robust airframe for us. No parts issues. We use a really good shop, they know them them.

Do you mind sharing what shop you're using Nathan? You're not too far from me and was just curious who around here knows Cheyenne's well.

I'm holding out for 9 blades.
