Mike Patey not only builds planes, he also built and ran an engineering firm. As in real engineers doing real engineering work. It’s not a shocker that he knows how to design, build and test things.

Peter…uh….well…uh…I am not sure what Peter is good at.

I'm sure it's been covered somewhere in this thread (not gonna read every page to find out), but this guy reminds me of "Mad Mike" the guy who designed/built his own rocket (and died in it). I kept wondering when I was going to read that "Raptor guy" met the same end. Thank God for that corn field, and for the merciful destruction of the airframe.

How fortunate for the Raptor guy he lost power every time over an airport or friendly terrain. I hope when the airframe ends up in a museum, they leave the oil stains and drips, as that seems to be it's normal state of existence.

Which museum would that be? The “How I made a small fortune in Aviation Museum”?

"We're not going to do the pressurization anymore." That's a solid pivot, because you never had it in the first place.

Lots of talk about less weight in this model, so perhaps the cacophony of rebukes over weight has had some penetration into his thickly walled mindset.

In any case, he's the exact right person to take NG all the way to the finish line.

Pfft…..Peter is so good, they plan on going straight into production!

Really though, he has either been lying or they just have come up with this design. He couldn’t get anyone to fly his previous death trap. Who’s going to be willing to take this thing up?

Good questions - these real test pilots wouldn't fly the now defunct one. They did some taxi tests (wearing full protective gear, unlike Raptor guy), but wouldn't fly it at an airport near rising terrain, with no place to bail. And somewhere between this video and the move to Valdosta (longer runway and flat terrain surrounding), they appear to have made the rational decision to part ways with Raptor guy.

Maybe it was the fact that it struggled to stay at 2800’ MSL that convinced him.

Where do I send my deposit?

You have to get your Vision Jet deposit back before you can buy another plane.

I don't think that they had any intentions on flying this bird..
they got paid their consulting fees, because he insisted on them coming over
but those guys are smarter than that, and would not fly this thing

I think they would have flown it if there weren't so many unknowns. The engine/redrive was a huge problem for them. It was completely untested. no redundancy single ECM. It had never been dynoed. Overheating issues. If I remember correctly, he didn’t want to move it at first snd when they declined to fly it, he decided to finally move it.

I'm actually enjoying this. I love the hybrid electric concept. It's actually, theoretically, possible, but it's largely uncharted territory. Does Peter have the ability to make it work? Whaddayouthink? The only thing I can think is that he has somebody in Boise who knows something about this sort of tech and wants to take a swing at it with him.

He mentioned the people in Boise were repaying all existing investors as part of the deal. This design pivot makes me wonder what they were buying...there are so many changes contemplated with the "NG" that it doesn't seem like the value of existing molds or designs justify the "purchase".

I thought it stood for Raptor No Good.

Hey does anyone have any used 200KVa diesel gensets they are no longer using? Asking for a friend.

So something like the this, but maybe 250 lbs or so. https://www.americasgenerators.com/200- ... n-EPA.aspx

So maybe I am a lousy searcher on the NTSB site. ATSB would have something on a report by now, usually the next day. I gather NTSB are not even filing a pilot report on this for some reason?

I get stressed reading this thread, I expected a report with a fatality. Glad that did not happen, only corn damage. The world is a safer place for now at least.

No one died or got seriously hurt. No report.

Surely that is not true in a regulatory sense? Real world I get that some will just not bother.

The NTSB can’t investigate every bump and scratch that happens, let alone on an experimental prototype.
