Large as it was, you couldn't read that N number in the air, could you? So what good would it do having it in the radio calls?
What radio call would have been most useful to you, and why?

I’ve been flying since 1982 and never heard that before.

If you share the pattern with me you’re going to hear “Tan Baron.” If you’re close enough to read my N number you’re way way too close.

very common in the midwest. I say things like that quite often. No one can read a number but everyone can see a color.

+1. I never use my N Number at non towered airports. Nobody can see it anyways.

Colors are descriptive and create an image in your mind allowing you to keep track of multiple planes at a busy uncontrolled field. Its also in the AIM.

Somewhere in some rulebook I think it says that you're supposed to use your official callsign on the radio (N number, flight number, FCC callsign, whatever).

I think that's fine for the first call but if you do that with every single call then it clutters up the airtime and does nothing to improve communication, smooth traffic flow, or anyone's safety.

Same here: Red Bonanza entering downwind. If you can read my tail number, you are way too close.

Yup... when the police send out a BOLO, they give the subject car's physical description, not the VIN.

Having said that... there are some airports, such as Leesburg, VA (JYO) where the rules have you announce your full N number each time. But that's to keep the Forces of Darkness happy, not for other pilots' situational awareness.
