I heard "Denali 01" talking to ATC Wednesday while I was flying from Watsonville, CA to Phoenix. It seems they are out there flying.

That was probably some guys call sign and not a Cessna Denali.

Yup. It was likely a C-17 on a X-C from Alaska. They use the Denali callsign for the 517th out of Elmendorf.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Cessna gets the Catalyst ATP bolted onto Denali airframes and in the air after testing the GE engine. Supposedly they now have over 2000 hours on an engine with no unexpected problems. ...wonder how P&W feels about this?

When you hear "Cactus" and "Brickyard" and "Jetcard" and "Cronos" on the radio what do you think?

Those sound like some good names for NASCAR races and sponsors!

Hasn't Cactus been gone for 5+ years?

The other day I heard “Bishop Traffic, red & white Skylane downwind runway XX, Bishop”.

And several more “red & white Skylane” radio calls.

I’ve been flying since 1982 and never heard that before.

When I landed I saw the red & white Skylane. It had a large N number on the side. I guess that was just decorative.

More drift. I always used numbers until someone opened my eyes to the fact they mean nothing to others in the pattern trying to locate you.

The only time I hear other Mitsubishi’s in the pattern it’s at PROP.

I think adding “22MK” to Mitsubishi is only a distraction.

Simply saying Mitsubishi has others looking for either a WWII fighter or a twin engine kerosene burner.
