The SF-50 is a gateway drug jet. Every salesman who sells "real" jets wants the SF-50 ownership list because those folks are the ones who will want to upgrade away from a noisy, slow, low jet into one that really performs.

It seems like a perfectly suitable appliance for a number of perfectly good missions.

But… on with the show

Cirrus really hit the sweet spot for a turbine upgrade, especially for pilots transitioning from the SR22. There is plenty to criticize when you compare it to the competition which in many ways are more capable However if you want a plug and play aircraft that seems to be pretty safe and very comfortable it fills a nice nitch. I like my M600 over the SF50, simply because I regularly fly in a very harsh environment. Some of my best memories are carrying a lot, a long way, and high hot and contaminated runways are normal and not exceptional in my day-to-day flying. But the Cirrus has a nice niche that it fills.

Exactly. I don't understand the animus towards the thing. It's a very smart move from a business perspective. If it doesn't meet one's performance requirements, don't buy it. What's more, I'd be willing to bet that Cirrus as a whole has done a lot to increase GA utilization because of the way they design and market their products.

The Vision Jet would be absolutely perfect for both me and my mission. If I was going to be gifted any TP or jet I wanted, I would take the Vision Jet hands down.

Unfortunately, my checkbook is not as firm as my attitude.

A man has got to know his limitations.

Plenty of options to buy and fly a jet for less than SF 50 prices.

Especially when they aren't as limiting as he thinks.

Mike,

I fully understand your rationale, and you are far and away too smart not to see mine.

The simplicity and convenience of the Vision Jet make it desirable for me.

You keep forgetting the age difference in the two of us, I think. :peace:

I think I'd go legacy citation or eclipse over the vision jet for less all-in costs.

What good is a jet that can't get above weather or go fast? :)

Is Cirrus in business to make the best VLJ or to make money? If it's the latter, the design seems to be a hit.

I wish the Diamond Jet had continued to fruition.

I liked the look of that one, too. I forget how their numbers were, or if it ever flew.

There is just so much to like about a fast SETP, though.

I wonder if, deep within the engineering department of Cirrus, there is an retract, pressurized, SETP concept that never saw the light of day.

I find it complex to deal with engine failures in a single engine jet and nearly trivial to do so in a twin jet.

A twin jet is nothing like a twin piston. The "twinophobia" that piston pilots have is misplaced.

Engine failure after takeoff at 100 ft AGL:

TEJ: fly away on half thrust, choose any airport to land at.

SEJ: crash into the neighborhood in front of you. Good luck.

Me too, but they still fly around.

Not bad for 400 lbs/hr

Missed the boat on this one, I guess that's what I get for putting it on tomorrow's coffee viewing list yesterday. Hopefully Austin will repost it at some point. I really enjoyed following along on his evolution build - for those who are interested:

Arlen I didn’t buy anything. Prices were ridiculous last summer and now I’ve decided that having cash on hand is the way to go. I think we’ll see some opportunities in the next 18 months, both in aviation and real estate, that make more sense.
As an aside, this is the second time that I’ve visited Cirrus at a major aviation event and discussed in detail my interest in their products with zero post-show follow up. My family and I spent hours going through a pre delivery VJ at Osh that they had out back away from the masses w their rep and all I got afterwards were crickets.
Oh well, apparently they don’t need to chase customers.
