I should have been more specific. I mean while it is on the plane, with a prop. That is what I meant by REAL. HP at the prop, as in HP at the axle.

Curious minds want to know so I found this: http://www.lancairowners.com/wp-content ... Legacy.pdfCAFE Report, stating that Legacy stalled power off at 59knots at 2200 pounds with full flaps down. Is that not the case or are the owners just running them at much higher gross weights?

The prop is bolted directly on the engine so HP measured at the prop and at the engine are the same. In a car the difference between engine HP and axle HP is losses in the gearbox and driveline, none of which apply in an airplane.

Update: Unfortunately, the plane did not make it out of the pre-buy. The IO-540 only had 220 hours on it but cylinder #1 was dead. We changed plugs, still no joy. Swapped coils, still no joy. Boroscoped it, and all of the valves looked fine. All the cylinders had carbon on top of them. The owner always ran it 75 ROP like the Lycoming engineer told him to do. Sad day. I don't have plane tickets out of here even. I am looking at an RV 14 tomorrow that is near here.

Username Protected wrote: well, it's your money, and your call, but I wouldn't walk away from a plane for a single bad jug. Is that all that's wrong with it?
Cylinders are a consumable on our engines, $2k or so to swap one out. If the rest of the plane is awesome in every way, you could negotiate the price down or insist on a fresh jug to make the sale.
Was there anything else wrong with the airplane? Not really anything else wrong with it. We are not positive at this time about the jug or the roughness.
