Username Protected wrote: Garrett, We bought our 340 out of Oregon - yeah, the state, on the left coast. TAS sent one of their guys out there to crawl all over the airplane, video chat back with Tony and their guys back home. Called me after a day or two and said we had a good airplane and to fly out and finish the pre-buy and close the deal. They looked at 3 or 4 airplanes prior to this one and told me to walk on those - weren't worth continuing the discussions. Their guy flew back with me, got me ten hours in the airplane and a lot of familiarity with it.
I was impressed with their level of detail in the process and continued support of our 340. At the least, call them and ask what they can do for you. Marla has been most excellent in getting questions answered and keeping everything moving.
Happy Flyin'!
The lady there today said they wouldn't fly to the airplane, it would have to come to them. They're booked until Fall, so it wouldn't matter anyways. She was terrific and very helpful, though. I'd love to find a way to do business with them in the future.

Sometimes you just know a place is well regarded and after talking to her in the morning, it was easy to see why. They were similarly backed up when I was looking at doing a pre-buy last spring.

Then I had to wait a few weeks after we closed the deal for them to get started finishing the annual and doing repairs. I was happy with their service, and their labor rate is very favorable compared to what I pay in the north east. They regularly work on Twin Cessnas. TAS / Tony Saxton is the undisputed Twin Cessna expert, but they do appear to be very busy. My mechanic (at Twin City Airmotive here in MA) will readily call Tony if there is something he is unsure about, and get a prompt answer.

I'll have to give them a call tomorrow and see where they are on scheduling. Thank you!

You can click on Advocate Tax and Legal's website here: http://www.advocatetax.com/aircraft-sta ... ine-tools/ and then click on the Interactive Sales/Use Tax Map. It is a good start but I have, in the past, found an inaccuracy on there so you will want to thoroughly vet any information you use from them (and it is at your own risk of course). Further, every exemption (fly-away, casual/isolated, interstate commerce, etc) is different and has its own requirement and nuances...on a state by state basis. So just be super careful.
In the Mid-Atlantic regions, SC is a very favorable state to close in as they have a maximum sales tax for aircraft that is capped at $300. Do not close in VA or MD as they do not have fly-away exemptions. I also really like NJ for closings as it has a casual sale exemption as well as a fly-away exemption. And a little farther away is NY and it has no (zero, nada, zilch) sales tax for aircraft. Again, this is just my 2 cents and worth the price you paid for it...obviously it is critical to get in the weeds on this issue and do as much research as possible.
Of course, fully document the location of the plane at closing using FlightAware (file IFR flight plans both ways), fuel receipts, notarized affidavits, etc.

This was the last step to my puzzle. I really appreciate the help here.

Well Mustangs and CJs are Cessna twins, so yes people still fly them. Username Protected wrote: People still fly Cessna twins

Are you gonna tell us what you're looking at and hopefully buying? I'm Italian, have to mind the Malocchio. It's a 310. Hopefully it works out.

Late model 310R in contract. Combining the Prebuy with an annual. Here's to hoping it all checks out. On another note, I was told that if it's a private sale between two individuals, the state the airplane is in won't collect sales tax from the buyer. Is this true? The tax websites are so ambiguous, I feel like anyone could be right depending how they argue it.
