You need a caravan on floats that you can dock right at your house. I wonder how Air Maledives, Key West Floatplane charters and other saltwater operators keep their planes and engines from corroding. Is there a way to protect aluminum with a sacrificial anode ? Daily washdowns with ACF-50 ? A rivet gun and sheets of aluminum ?

Only vaguely related to your question, Florian, but a nice fit for the topic, a friend of mine flies a Carbon Cub SS on floats. Spends pretty much every summer in the Bahamas flying his Cub. He tells me he spends no time working to keep it unsalty or whatever. Long story short...he bought a new Carbon Cub (just because he could) and traded in his old one. The CubCrafters folks took the old one back to the factory and took it down to bare steel and aluminum. They tell me there was NO unusual corrosion in the airframe. Go figure. The did do some oil tricks and such for the new one. As soon as the NM house sells, I am all over floats for the Cub. Jim

I imagine if a plane flies every day and is on a commercial maintenance schedule, keeping the salt out of the airframe is an ongoing project. Having a plane sit in the brine for extended periods is a different issue.
Are there amphibs available for the CC ?

Its a lot of work operating in salty water. They take the plane out of the water every night and wash them down, lots of ACF-50 everywere. Daily turbine wash on the engines. They have no choice or the plane would be unusable after a while. Username Protected wrote: Damn I want a seaplane! At the KCFE fly-in I was lucky enough to get a ride in it and go puddle jumping for about an hour. Since then, I have been doing a bunch of homework on how to get one to fit in my hangar......I will put you and Greg B first on the passenger list! I will warn you, if you get a ride in one, you will want one Great call on PWC! They could not have gave it a better identifier (Personal Water Craft ) I have seen a Duke coming out of there and I think I am the only one that actually signs in and out in the visitor log book. My wifes parent's cabin is just to the east 10 min (Fifty Lakes) My good friends rental is on the north side of Trout. It is sooo easy!!!!!! Very cool Tommy - sign me up! We should have a local BTer lunch sometime anyway. There are a lot of us up here.
I was actually contemplating taking my plane out of its ice box this Sunday....heat wave coming, like 30+ degree day. Just need to make sure I spend 2 days chipping the ice off of the door first....oh the fun of MN!!!!

Short answer is no! The ocean always wins.
Now having said that the new carbon fiber and plastic amphibs are looking pretty damn good. I've got my eyes on a couple. If I can fly it in salt water then I don't won't one. Well I actually do want one.

Pelican Lake
Seaplanes have the same rules as boats once on the water. Certain lakes in the metro area have restrictions on the weekends for seaplanes especially. Rest of the lakes are fair game, just have to follow the boat rules.

Kjersti There is a gaggle of Supercubs on amphibs based out of Fargo and western MN (4 or 5 total). They all have the same paint-job white with a red stripe. Ever run into them on the weekends ? http://www.supercub.org/photopost/showp ... hoto=22244
