Interesting... http://www.aero-news.net/subsite.cfm?do ... 506f59ef54I really grilled them when they wanted me to sign my purchase agreement about how they were going to ramp up to 121 in October and they told me they had a lot being built right now. From the sounds of it, they only had 11 airframes under construction. I would hardly call that grounds to ramp up to 121 in October. -jason

Quote: ICON has also revised its Aircraft Purchase Agreement to include significant changes in response to customer feedback. The new Purchase Agreement will be released in the coming weeks. Maybe they're listening. I hate to see yet another manufacturer tossed upon the dustbin of aviation history... even one with some dumb ass lawyers running the show. I hope they've sharpened their pencils and come up with a common sense purchase agreement.

They're going out of business. They've exposed themselves for who they really are. Even if I did like they're aircraft and I don't, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

From the updated agreement article: Quote: Icon also announced a major reduction in production for 2016, from 175 airplanes originally scheduled to roll out of the factory to 20.
Plenty of the original contract language remains, however. Icon will still require buyers to agree not to sue the company after a crash in which the company isn’t found liable by the National Transportation Safety Board; maintenance and repairs still must be performed by factory-approved shops; flight data recorders will still be installed in all A5s (but with an expanded privacy policy); and customers agree to require that anyone they sell the airplane to undergo Icon factory training or pay Icon a $5,000 fee (money the company says it never hopes to collect). Icon is also setting a cap on the first required 10-year airframe overhaul of $15,000. After that, airframes must still be overhauled every 10 years, with no cap on cost and no limit on the number of overhauls. As long as an Icon-approved mechanic deems an A5 airworthy, it can continue to fly.

I use the OEM for maintenance on the Mustang - and they are great - really fabulous. But, I don't have to, and if I ever felt that they weren't working for me, I could make a change. I like that freedom.
-jason Freedom vs. control and liability .... it will be interesting to see who wins this battle. How many folks will buy and expensive toy with lots of strings attached to it that the manufacturer controls? And will ICON survive this battle?

And will ICON survive this battle? It depends on how hard and how long they're willing to fight. They've already blinked once.

I'm starting to think they have no intention of surviving, to be trying such boneheaded things. I suspect the "private investors" are already lined up at the back door -- the one marked "bankruptcy receivership"
