What's the TBO on the FJ44's?

Is there something magical about a 42 year old 500 with the Williams conversion, that makes it worth roughly the same price as a 16 year old CJ1?

While I don't have the specs right in front of me to compare, by memory the Sierra 500's have better range and full fuel payload than the CJ/CJ1. However, that comes at the cost of being a bit of a "frankenplane" and of course being middle aged as opposed to being a teenager.

I suspect the $1m Sierra 501's are going to be sitting on the market for a while, and that they aren't really the same value as a CJ1.

A lot of the value of any of these planes is tied up in the engines. The hours before TBO and if they are on an engine program or not will greatly affect the value.

The 500 is on engine programs (Tap Elite), the CJ1 isn't and in 350 hours the bill will be over $1.1M for the MPI.

WOW.

Can you run a Williams past TBO with just an overhaul like you can with a PT6?

Depends. Early FJ44s were 3500 hours. More recent ones could be 4000 or 5000 hours. Depends on year manufactured, SB status, and if on TAP program.

No, because Williams has labeled the OH an inspection event which makes it mandatory.

The Sierra 501's are damn interesting. While I'm not shopping now, I keep looking at my "next plane" and the idea of skipping turboprop and going straight to a jet is intriguing.

The problem is that I need 1200nm range. Straight 501 doesn't do it (and uses a lot of dead dinosaurs), and even the straight CJ struggles with that range.

Robert

This one on Controller is now down to $750k. One hell of a bargain for a jet with FJ44s...

http://www.controller.com/listings/airc ... tation-500

I posted this link about a month ago and it was $950k.

Provided the engines are low time and on TAP, what would be upcoming big ticket maint items?

I would say $50K and up.

There is a low utilization inspection program that extends the Phase 5 from 36 months to 72 months. http://www.baconaviation.com/citation-luip.html

It's also how it's done. Some shops inspect and replace as needed. Some just replace more to reduce down time.

So any Williams powered Citation, regardless of age and not on a TAP program, is facing the bone yard come TBO? I think I now understand what is referred to as the "Williams Mafia".

It's all relative. Spending $100k every 3 years on an airplane worth $500k, is no different than spending $1k on a $5k used car every 3 years. Of course a lot depends on what other mx is required in the interim.
