As I was earning my private license back in 1986, the first plane I bought was a 182. In that airplane, I went on to get my Instrument Rating and Commercial.

It's a great learning platform....AND a nice traveling and hauling plane.

Congrats!

182s are fun and great machines. They fly best with 30 to 50 pounds in the baggage area when solo or just 2 pilots, makes the flare easier
I kept a 5 gallon collapsible water jug back there and just poured it out when necessary

Congrats on the Skylane purchase! More pics!

Good advice re: carrying ~50# in the baggage compartment. Why? In the event that you are not already aware, it is surprisingly easy to put a wrinkle in the firewall should the nosewheel touchdown too (ahem) firmly.

Thanks Doug. I may just do that... I've heard that over and over... I HOPE I'll remain obsessed with keeping the yoke back, but I may throw 50 back there just in case!

My second plane was a '66 182J, great plane.
Wouldn't have been a bad deal to have stayed with it.
Kinda miss it now and then.

Congrats and good luck.

LOL!!!! Not a bit James...

I was actually surprised when I went to go see the airplane.. The interior is not as bad as the pictures make it look... I'd still imagine she'll be getting a new inside before too many months.

Everybody wonders if they just should have stayed with their 182's. I wonder how big my mountain of cash would be if I did. ;)

As for weight in the baggage area, not necessary if you have the big tailed version, Cessna switched in the mid 60's so you have one. I had a 67 182K. I flew that with only the front seats in 95% of the time. Never landed nosewheel first.

Congratulations! 182 was my first choice now in a partnership in a Piper 260B. A36 is my dream machine!

Congratulations Jamie, it's an exciting day to get your new wings.

Also fun seeing Wisconsin Aviation in the picture. I've got a lot of time parked there on trips back and forth to Madison.

Congratulations!
I was just there yesterday for lunch!
Super nice folks, great food!

Congrats - 182 is probably the best all around workhorse airplane out there. Honest airframe and engine combination. Does no one thing spectacular, but does everything well. Don't forget to trim on landing.

I'm assuming that model has carb heat. If so fly with the carb heat about 1/4 out and lean a little more.

I have some hundred hours in the Skylanes...

If carbureated.. Keep the carb warm

The O-470's make carb Ice easily, more so than any other engine I've flown.

The 40° flap models can run out of elevator authority very easily at landing speeds.

Really... be aware of this and keep the flare speed up or carry power thru landing, so to
keep some prop wash across the elevators.

I like 10° flaps for takeoff.

In wet night conditions, the rain droplets are hitting the windshield then sliding up, then if you lose 10-30 knots airspeed, unbuckle your belt and lean forward over the panel so you can shine a flashlight up to the wing..
If there is a 1-2 inch ridge of ice there, well then that's why you are losing 10-3 knots airspeed!

Lol

Attach a University of Tennessee "T" or Texas longhorn emblem and viewers will conclude that the orange and white isn't original paint, but a loyalty statement.
